So, after finally hearing enough praises (mostly from George) I decided to try Twisted Wave. So far I like it a lot.
I am having 1 early issue though I was hoping to get some help with.
When I hit the record button in the middle of a track, I get this bleed of noise for 1-2 seconds before I speak. I can't tell what it is, but in the Waveform it looks like room tone then trails off to silence, except my room tone after those few seconds is much quieter. The best way I can describe it is almost like old school film getting up to speed. Its as if when I record, there's a second for something to catch up, be it my computer, or Twisted Wave itself.
Once I'm recording it's gone, even if I stop speaking.
Is this normal behavior? If so I can live with it, I just need to know to wait a few seconds to speak. I mean, I did start out learning on tape and film, so it's not a foreign concept to me. It just seems weird for a mostly digital system.
Thanks,
Paul _________________ http://www.paulstefano.com |

Hi Paul! I use TW all the time and I haven't seen this. No clue what it is. I'm just glad it's not seemingly interfering with your actual takes.
I think you'll love TW. I have found it really intuitive, and the developer is great for supporting it. _________________ jen@jengosnell.com

Thanks for the reply. Was pretty sure it wasn't normal. I will keep testing. Its not so bad for short reads but will present a problem with audiobooks where I'm starting and stopping a lot _________________ http://www.paulstefano.com |

Are you on El Crapitan, by chance? Works perfectly on Mavericks and Yosemite. El Crapitan has been reeeeaallly buggy.
Let Thomas know about your issue (Thomas is the TW developer and support guy). Make sure Playthrough when Recording is also NOT CHECKED in Preferences: Devices. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

I have the same OS and problem, Paul. Didn't realize it was an issue until your post. _________________ "There's Magic all around us; you just have to see it. And the most wonderful Magic of all, is just bein' alive." -Uncle Montork, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe |

Ha! Glad to be of service. Like I said, it's definitely easy to workaround, I just figured it wasn't quite right. _________________ http://www.paulstefano.com |

If anybody wants to see what this looks like, here you go.
I wasn't even in the booth. This is straight room tone. I hit record, then stopped, then hit record again. You can see the two weird blips that look like fades, but this was all done by Twisted Wave on its own.
Also, I did email support at Twisted Wave. I hope they don't tell me to upgrade, because my Macbook is so old Lion is as far as I can take it.

We are becoming a divided-up, Balkanized nation when it comes to talking to each other, communicating with each other. I two Google log-ins. Your Google-play recording will not download using either one. Any suggestions on how to access it? |

Sorry, Vernon, I granted access. It's just a screenshot of the waveform, not an audio file. _________________ http://www.paulstefano.com |

So to update. I'm thinking maybe I'm just having computer issues. Maybe hard drive failure? Would love to get opinions.
Last night, I was recording in Twisted Wave, and on just a 30 second recording, it skipped. Also, playback was having trouble stuttering at times. Others, it would play fine.
I also had problems with Audacity this week. Nearly identical issues. Recording would have stuttering, or what I call dropouts, where whole sentences would be missing from a long paragraph. I asked everybody at the Audacity forums, and they all said my issue was unique and hard to diagnose.
I'm using a Macbook Pro, 13inch, circa 2008. It is running pretty slowly for everything, even though the Core 2 Duo 2.6 processor is pretty good. It should be enough for Twisted Wave or Audcacity.
I'm not a computer novice, but if you think maybe the computer is dying (or at least the hard drive) like I now do, please let me know. _________________ http://www.paulstefano.com |

About to do your Stacks, Paul, but yes, it's definitely a combo of slow/dying HD and lack of Memory. Upgrade to a Macbook Air (used for $500 or so) or upgrade the HD to an SSD. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

I use TW too. On two Macs using El Capitan, haven't noticed this particular issue. I think others here are onto something about the hard drive/memory. I just did the newest update, worth the few seconds it takes! _________________ "The wise ones fashioned speech with their thought, sifting it as grain is sifted through a sieve." - Buddha

You can find great deals on Mac Airs (and almost any other mac) from macsales.com, macofalltrades.com, and macmall.com (all of which I learned about from George, haha.) _________________ "There's Magic all around us; you just have to see it.
