Hi folks.

I'm an almost 28-year who for years has heard from friends/family/near-strangers that I should try to find voice-work, A bit over a year ago I thought "what the hell, might as well start practising." For about half a year I had lessons with a theatre director my family knows. He taught me a lot about how to handle texts, intonations, memorization, etc, but he didn't know anyone who voice-acted professionally, so I felt a bit stuck in my development.

Then my cousin, who works at Guerrilla Games (Killzone), recommended this site, and said I could probably get lots of good advice here. So...here I am.

I'm bilingual (Swedish and Dutch), and my parents have always spoken English with each other, so I'm fairly good at that language as well.

I'm looking forward to your merciless critique of my soundclips. Smile

Hello Karthak,

Welcome to the VO-BB! You'll find loads of useful information in the archives here. And some silliness, too.

Merciless critiques? My, my! Word of our behavior gets around?

Welcome. You and the Russian guy can take turns over the next couple of weeks seeing that the llama has fresh water and an occasional snack.

A couple of decades ago my voice was getting a workout taking calls from corporate purchasing people. One of my co-workers was a true, genuine Swede. His English was chipper, up-beat, a bit on the wiry side, but now and then Mama would call and he would shift gears and have a private chat with her in their native tongue. It was jarring! Low. Gutteral. I would love to run across him again and herd him into my studio and command: SPEAK! I want a recording of that!

I'm always envious of people who are bi, or even trilingual. Welcome to the board. There's no posturing or posing here... egos are checked at the door. You'll get good solid advice & healthy discussion coupled with a light smattering of absurdity. Sometimes not so light.

(this will be where Lee takes my "I'm always envious of people who are bi..." completely out of context)

Contrary to Bish's expectations, I am just going to concur with him. I have tremendous admiration for people who are multilingual. I have enough trouble with just English. Rolls Eyes
