I've been running into several casting houses starting to use AgencyPro. AP's an on-line data base where agencies and casting directors have their talents and their info listed for easy access and marketing.

Is anyone here listed and what are your feelings? Is this a new trend or a flash in the pan?

BOO HISS.

They'll tell you you get a "free listing" and then barage you with endless email urging you to "upgrade" or you'll be out of sight of the producers perusing the database.

It's more crap.
Agencies are not ONLY foisting their cost of doing business onto the talent, they're urged by AgencyPro to MAKE money off of talents wishing to be in their database.

To wit:
"create new revenue"

So they're forcing the talents to pay if they want to be listed with them? Lame!

Well, you can still be listed for free, but no one will see you. Smile Gee, thanks.

They'll tell you there's no "force", but it's all hard leaning on the talent to pony up.

There has been a real hue and cry about it in Boston recently.

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot we can do about it, is there?

Sure there is. Don't upgrade. Don't cave. Very few people in Boston have gone the full-sign-up route.
The one agent that is using it says she does so for the sake of its database capability.

None of the "real" agents use it—that is no one at Abrams or ICM or CESD is using it.
It's piker bullshit. I hate stuff that squeezes talent.

I got a note from a casting house today that is starting to use Agency Pro. They basically said that they're using it for the convenience of access to their data base system for searching through the files.

They say a free membership is sufficient because they will be the ones searching their AP files looking for people to submit to clients and they have access to everyone- free and paid.

That's sure not how AP makes it sound when you sign on.

It's the same thing with Boston Casting-- the folks there like the database features.

Stick with the free sign up and ignore the automatic pressure from the AP-generated letters.

Awesome!

Angela is a brick and she's got really fine people working for her.
For her, Agency Pro is just a quick-n-easy talent database.
