Sometimes I get bored, write things, and then decide to record them and make them.

I wouldn't call them demos or promotional material. Heck, I'm not sure what else to call them besides, "busy work". Little projects I put together during down periods of time I guess.

This one's called "The Universe Inside You"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSdV_RgAiuw

And this one is my most recent little busy work project, "Time: The Cosmic Currency"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDRcPMQlkVw

Who knows, maybe someday I'll take the ideas and expand upon them and write a book or something. Get Lost

Busy work? I think not. This is honing the skill and building a resume. These are interesting little pieces and I love the production values and execution. They demonstrate a skill-set wider than just VO and they are great examples for getting yourself out into the marketplace (or multiple marketplaces). They may be a "labour of love" or "just messing around", but they deserve a wider audience or at least some using in a marketing plan.

... and I usually run a mile from anything that can be described as even vaguely "inspirational" Wink

No one says we have to do voiceover only. There are plenty of allied endeavors we can throw into the mix to add to our desirability. It's a very good way to fill your down time.

The only thing I might say is pace yourself more overall. Spread your thoughts out just a bit. Give the average viewer time to absorb. And maybe cut copy by a third. I felt you were repeating general ideas.

Very attention grabbing subjects. Easy to listen and relate to. I agree with Bruce on pacing thoughts. I enjoyed listening, but I also wanted to savor each moment.

Thanks guys! I totally forgot to check to see if anyone posted any replies until just now!

*rubs chin, nods*

I see what you mean. I could have chopped it up and put in some spaces of no speech...that actually would have been helpful, as there were some other musical pieces I wanted to use that were longer, as well as some leftover video.

Good advice, well heeded! I think I finally dialed in my sound and vocal chain for that "type" of production. It takes a bit more than audiobooks, as you need to make the vocal part "sit in the mix". Certain words just are harder to hear with music.

I may never be called upon to ever produce anything like that for a paying client, but if I have kids someday I'll be able to put together killer home movies!

Oh, and it's now painfully obvious to myself that I've been narrating a lot of self help audio books lately.
