Hi Michigan VO Peeps,
I am NOT trying to start a debate or discussion on Union vs. Non-Union
But we are moving to Michigan (Dearborn area) from Florida and I was just wondering whether there is more pressure/incentive to go the Union route given all of the automotive-related industry there. Any input is appreciated. |

Maybe a "kinfolk" question to pair with your original question: Does being that close to Chicago add incentive to the idea of a union relationship? |

I'm in Kalamazoo and I don't really think there is pressure either way. Not a very big VO scene in Michigan so most of my work is done for out of state people anyway. |

Rob,
It's a moot question. Michigan is a right-to-work state now. _________________ Be well,

National car spots will always be union, and they are mostly cast in the major markets or via Voicebank through agents. Most local car spots, no matter where you live, will be non union. |

You would think with the big three automakers being in Michigan that it would make a difference being union but it really doesn't. Unless you're pursuing the national car spots as Bob B. points out. I've lost one job because I'm not union. It was a huge e-learning project for GM/UAW and they required a union voice talent for it. |

Thanks for the input everyone. We got a contract on the house in ONE DAY.
Looks like me and my booth will be in the Dearborn area by late July. |
