I have a buddy who is getting into freelance imaging. He has a pretty good idea what to charge for the production, but lacks knowledge on the writing side. Would you be so kind as to share with me on or off the board example rates for writing per imaging piece? 10 pieces?

Thanks,

D

Honestly, I have no idea since everything I've done was for in-house production, but I think I'd charge by the run. An entire set of drops/sweeps/whatever for a set price. I don't have my radio head on at the moment, but imaging should be somewhat fluid throughout the course of a year (ie changing periodically to still sound "fresh"), so I'd imagine there would be at least a couple runs per year, no?

Heck, even a retainer would be good.

but to piece it out... I'd imagine a Production Director digging through the big flat drawers in everyone's desk looking for spare change...

I know of a few folks that charge $10 each for writing image copy. I also know folks who do it at no charge as long as they receive a list of "particulars" (call letters, slogan, location, landmarks etc). Guess it just depends on how a person would choose to market themselves.
