For those who played our game with my last demo, we're now in round two for those keeping score.
My appreciation for those who participated last go around and you confirmed my suspicions about what I got from my last "demo producer".
It was as they say, dog poo and wasn't me at all.
So, in round two, taking your advice, and begging your indulgence, let's see if we have moved in the right direction. I produced it myself this time.
Fire at will.
We'll make sure everyone gets a participation trophy.

Thanks Philip and Todd. If you want it done right, sometimes you need to do it yourself.
Still disappointed in the store-bought demo.

Roger, I held off on any critique before now because you were getting plenty of feedback on your other thread. I, also, like this one better, but I'm still not crazy about it. I'm just not hearing enough variety. Each bit sounds very much the same. It's almost difficult to know where one ends and the next begins. To my ears everything sounds like it was recorded at the same time in the same place using the same batch of library music. I think you sound fine, I'm just not hearing a ton of range in this demo.

One final thought. It has to do with the supposed National spots, like A1 sauce and a couple of the others. I'm not believing that you really did those, that they were just copy that you picked up. Do you have any real, actual broadcast spots that you recorded that you could include?

Scott,
Thanks for your cogent comments. You're spot on about all of it.
There probably isn't enough variety, but I'm never quite sure how far to take that before it might be a clip for a different category of demo.
For instance, I did a spot for a furniture store in Florida with a rather snooty British accent and was informed that probably should be on a character reel.
Anyway, the spots were recorded on only three different mics and two locations so there probably isn't much difference and the music was from the same library, albeit a large one.
As far as the national spot thing, you're, of course, correct I didn't do them, but the copy was there and I don't have a plethora of "produced" spots.
Mostly, I've done e-learning, explainer and podcast stuff which aren't exciting listening. I'm trying to get more commercial work and this is my feeble attempt at hopefully attracting same.
Once the offers come rolling in (insert laugh) I'll build a new real commercial demo.
I do appreciate your comments as a working pro and your taking time to respond.
I'll try and find some "real' spots I've done that I think might be worthy of inclusion and plug them in to this demo if they work and I'll be back for more help. I've always enjoyed your work.

I like it - but it's all things you put in your mouth except for the car.

I like your storytelling feel. Maybe slow down in some spots. Good stuff!

How astute, Blair. I hadn't noticed. Maybe it's because I wasn't breast fed.
Anyway, thanks for your input...er, remarks.
