Hi,
For a solo podcast, what is your recommendations for choosing the podcast topic or niche?
It will be in Arabic language.
I am totally confused for which topics I should go for?
Is it possible to be in varieties? or it must be specific ?
I've just registered a domain name and picked .com, .net, .org for the same LTD domain name.

Topics that interest you. Stuff that spark genuine enthusiasm and passion.

Is it possible to be in varieties and not in a special topic?

'Course you can. There are no set rules and the ruler of that podcast, its content and message, should always be yourself. Think about what you'd like to talk about and talk about it. Talk about it from your perspective and lean towards honest opinion more than fear someone will get offended.

I'm a podcast addict myself, and I'll agree with Yonie on this... everyone of the podcasters, when asked, always replies "find your passion"... something you'd love to do even if you only get a handful of listeners to start... it will grow! I'd be careful about mixing it up too much... unless it's personality-driven, where you can go all over the place, as you are the focus, rather than the subject. If you are split between a couple of divergent subjects, there's no reason you can't do two separate ones and cross-promote! It may be difficult to combine studio recording and performance cars in one show Smile

The biggest issues are scheduling and pod-fade. I'm part of the Voiceover Cafe podcast "crew". The podcast has morphed into a round-table discussion (sometimes with guests) that discusses what seems to be on the collective VO mind at the moment. We have fun with it and do it because we want to (rather than raising anyone's profile). The big issues we have with logistics... trying to get five or six VOs on line at the same time every couple of weeks is like herding cats... and the episodes get farther and farther apart. Also, if you end up cancelling because two members got last-minute gigs... it's very difficult to schedule guests. We have a fairly small but loyal following and get around 1,500 downloads per episode (total around 45,000 so far). You must support it with a website (http://voiceovercafe.org) to host the episodes (and obviously iTunes and stuff like that) and give your listeners a method to interact. I see you've got the website thing covered. Yeah, I know... podcast 101 Smile

I love the podcast RadioLab— and it tends to be about a million different things.

I agree with my colleagues above. Most of the time, people will come to listen to your podcast because of YOU. You are likely to find a focus as you create your shows, and get feedback from your listeners.
You'll find out what people like, and when that meshes with what YOU like— there's your focus.

Good luck!

The most important question is "Why am I doing this podcast? What do I hope to convey to an audience?"

Guests make it easy to start, because conversation is interesting.
Some podcasts are successful because the host is an excellent writer, and doesn't need guests to help make his point.

What do YOU want to achieve? Why is podcasting interesting to YOU? The answer to these questions will set you in the right direction for your way to begin.

Deebs... "pod-fade" is when podcast starts out strong, maybe weekly... then it slips to less often, then only puts out sporadic episodes, and then disappears altogether. This can be due to logistics, dwindling enthusiasm from the producers, or not finding an audience. Podcasts don't usually announce they are stopping... they just wither and fade away.

We plan to record on Friday... that's this Friday, not some mythical Friday some time in the ill-defined future!

Hey Mohamed, I'd just consider the path to a career in voice over and choose any one of these as topics:

Starting equipment and software
Sound treatment of your space
How to practice and make a demo
How to design and build a website
How to get producers to find your website
Invoicing and collecting fees
Agents and production houses

Find successful voice talents who can speak to these issues and invite them to chat with you in the podcasts.
