Well at any rate I know that Rick Riley and Dan Nachtrab use it, if I remember correctly. Have fun! What mic are you pairing it with? |

A U87ai is nice to have around but it sounds like you are doing fine with what you have. |

I think what they use is the Martin Sound MSS-10. |

I have tried contacting Martin Sound to demo one of their units but after repeated calls and emails over the past few weeks I have not heard back from them. They must be really busy or there is no one in the office. Not sure why. I would really like to demo a unit first. They do have one sweet-looking recording studio though. |

Hey Rob---sorry....I didn't see that he already mentioned the Martech. I only saw the 2 links, and I thought you were confusing the Miktek w/the Martech. Doh! |

I wonder how the True Systems P-Solo stacks up?

One review says its got Neumann's approval or something.
Anyway, the Martech vs. DaKing is like comparing apples & oranges. Sure, they're both fruit...but the DaKing is colored and its design is based off the famous Trident consoles.
If you want "wire with gain" (uncolored/transparent) the Martech is king. If you want a little bit of character/flavor/color to your sound, the DaKing has a great reputation.
Personally, when it comes to preamps -- I'm in the "wire with gain" camp. You can always add color via a compressor or plugin via the computer. If you record with color, you can't remove it later. _________________ "The wise ones fashioned speech with their thought, sifting it as grain is sifted through a sieve." - Buddha

Of all the pre's I've bought and sold, that is actually not one of them. I know some people that swear by it, but every time I heard examples of it, there was something missing to my ear.
Closest thing to that which I've had is the Grace M101, which is a very nice, clean pre. |
