One way to track is to use ftp and a analytics like awstats. You can see when a file has been downloaded and also see the ip of the user. Then you know it's been received. |

So am I correct in this 'younger generation' being more self concerned in their actions, as in, "You'll hear from me if it's something I need, but if it doesn't benefit me, I won't be wasting my time"? Or does the selfishness apply in equal percentages across all generations? In my case, 'Steve' is of the younger generation in media. I gathered that when I called him and ran into his voicemail.
And as a followup, I sent 'Steve' an invoice on Friday with 'Please hit reply so I know you received the email'. As SOON as I hit send, an email came in from 'Steve', saying "So far we are all good. Client is circulating it for final approval but you can invoice us now." I told him that we had crossed emails and I just did. To which he DID hit reply to say that he got it.
After four days I guess I should have waited just one minute longer.
Bottom line, communication in any business is key, but with technology the way it is, and the way we communicate without confirmation that the other party has truly received it or not, replies are not just considerate, but necessary in confirming business. _________________ Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the Paramedics

Rick,
We are of similar minds on this. It's rude, and I think, yes, a generational thing that is lamentable. But I don't think the 'schooling ' idea can often work well
I don't think you invoiced early" I do think you handled it correctly. The only reasonable assumption to make was that since the file was downloaded , the client was operating on the principal of new news is good news. |

I always send the invoice immediately after sending the audio, thanking the client for the job, advising them they will receive a download link, and looking forward to working together again. The download notification indicates receipt of the audio and, if necessary for whatever reason, the invoice can always be revised later. _________________ Mike
