Many of them promote themselves as voiceover coaches.

Or they're Kardashians.

Agree, Rob! I am painfully shy. But I'm able to step out of my shy self when I'm acting. It's actually very freeing. I have a lot of very successful/well known actor friends the public would be shocked to learn are beyond shy.

Oh, this, this, this. It took me a lot of work to overthrow the ravages of shyness; acting classes helped, coaching helped, but ultimately I had to believe what I was doing on the stage or behind the mic. The ability to "tell the truth under imaginary circumstances" was always inside me, but it had to work through a wall of skeerdiness. I never questioned if I had talent -- it always felt 'right' inside me, but I couldn't let it stay inside me.

Nowadays, it's easier for me, although the flutters never entirely go away. I realize that whether it's a public talk or a VO, there are important elements of acting that help me do these things.

Bob, the time you had me behind a mic becoming the evil princess (tm), it took one look from you to me to impart the importance of what I had to do. It might have taken a few tries, but when I listened to the result, even *I* thought that character coming out of my mouth was real. Shy on that day? Hell yes, but you taught important lessons there, as did my other coaches and teachers at the time.
