Most recent post by Michael Goodman from Centrance regarding the crowdfunding effort for MixerFace:
Happy holidays to all. I wish I could give you great news, but not yet. This may sound like a broken record, but we continue to look for funds to finish this project. A big order for another product has not come through like we expected, so no motion yet.
At this point, we need about $40k to purchase the remainder of the parts and build the darn things. 2016 has been a very slow year, which has not helped things out. But we have a new fundraising adviser and are actively looking for the funding to finish the project and do other things. Again, I apologize for the long wait and really hate to have a "no update" update, but we are here and are beating our collective heads against the wall to find a solution. We will find it.
My comments regarding this most recent "update".
(the comments section on Indiegogo page wouldn't allow me to comment there for some reason)
Any update is appreciated. Otherwise we (the backers) feel abandoned. With almost 300 backers of this project trusting you to complete this effort, finding that 40k to "bring it home" might possibly be the best investment you could make. For a small company, 300 disappointed customers is disastrous. Not only among themselves, but for the other potential customers they talk to about their experience. Let's get this product made and shipped. This isn't an Apollo moonshot. After waiting weeks...months...and now years...it is the honorable and professional thing to do.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. This disgusts me. Shame on them.
Centrance is an established manufacturing company with existing products and a history. They are not a bunch of hopefuls working out of a basement trying to get a product off the ground. They have chosen to "crowd-fund" (aka beg) with Indigogo... and so far have done nothing but make excuses and let people down. There is no downside to them... they have no burden of legal responsibility to their investors so can have a cavalier attitude towards them. If they had followed the normal way of funding a new product, they would have spoken to the bank or to a venture capitalist... however, all that money would have had strings attached... strings like a certain level of accounting responsibility, a business plan, and repercussions if targets were missed or the project mishandled.
They pimped the MixerFace as something unique... but in the high-tech world, you can't sit on it for years like this. Someone else will eat your lunch. I predict that this product will never see the light of day, and if it does, it will come in a poor second to something already on the shelves. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

being such a big fan of the micport pro, i've been watching the (non)progression of events with sadness. i agree with peter - centrance is an established company - IMHO, they have no business crowd funding. they should have gone to the bank. this has really hurt their reputation. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

You are very kind. At this point one of the owners needs to mortgage the house or something. _________________ Jack Daniel

That quote sums it up. I want to do other things too. Maui comes to mind. |

Yes... that quote does sum it up... but not necessarily the part about moving forward.. This first part is the tell-tale part for me.
1) What the effity-eff is a "fundraising advisor*". Is this one of those roles that appeared with the rise of the new millennium? A wonderful career path carved out of the smoldering ashes of Web 2.0 (like a Social Media Guru)? Is some bearded, pipe-smoking, odd-sock-wearing financial expert telling Centrance they have to go where the new money is, broaden their demographic , and that micro-investors are the wave of the future ?
2) How much of the needed $40K did this "fundraising advisor" charge? Hopefully, they just walked into a Starbucks, yelled, "Who's got an MBA?" and got the advice for the price of an iced decaf-double-shot-goat-milk latte (and that would still have been over-paying for that particular advice!)
*Yes, I do know this is a legitimate role within charity organizations... and that's really my point! _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish
