Hi everyone! My name is Bryce. I'm extremely new to VO, so I thought I'd look around the web for places to find more info. I'm glad I did. This place has been an absolute gold mine of information.

I've have 5 weeks of group voice over lessons. Granted, that was about 4 years ago. Currently, I'm trying to join my college's radio theater program so I can get some experience under my belt.

I would LOVE to learn how you all started in VO, your VO origin stories so to speak, why you chose VO, and possibly any warnings/advice you have for a new member of the VO community.

Thank You:)

1972...seems like yesterday and an eternity ago at the same time.
First job out of school was at a top 40 radio station in a medium sized
city. About 6 months in, I somehow ended up being hired to voice 3 radio spots for "Der Wienerschitzle"...a hot dog fast food chain. My only real experience at anything related to voice 'acting' was imitating the announcer on Dick Orkin's "Chickenman!!!" radio show, which, along school drama classes, was what landed me in radio to begin with. I made more money that day than my entire month's paycheck at the radio station (which wasn't really a lot of $$ back then but it covered my rent for two months!) and set a personal goal to be doing voice work full time within the next ten years. 18 months later I was at a station in a major market, 2 yrs later had the morning radio show, and spent most of my spare time in VO workshops. 8 years from setting my goal I got an agent, left radio, built my first home studio, and have been on the VO roller coaster ever since.
Warnings? I've heard or been presented a lot of wild goose chase opportunities in this biz over the years...so just this; If it sounds too good to be true, then it is.
Advice ?; Success doesn't come quick. Take some VO workshops and work at developing a style that is uniquely yours. And when you're ready, find a good agent that believes in your potential.
