So I get this email from a voice talent congratulating me on being a finalist in the "Gravy for the Brain" Speed Reading contest. Huh? Shocked

Turns out there's a British online training mill by that name that had a contest over the past several months to read a paragraph as fast as you could... not necessarily with accuracy or with any attempt at clarity.... something that is very low on the priority list for professional voiceoverists. Well, it turns out some fellow with my appellation made the final 25. Definitely not me in age, experience, or studio quality, but there he was.

It's odd sometimes knowing there are other Bruce Miles out there (thanks Internet). A sports writer in Chicago, a church organ expert in England, a race car driver and Toyota dealership owner in New Zealand, a former forestry official in Texas. Oh, and probably a few dozen blokes in Australia if Month Python is to be believed.

Of course I could be named Philip Banks and have people wanting me to connect them with "Fresh Prince" Will Smith all the time.

never been confused for any of them though.

I saw a post of his on the GVAA Community FB page, and did a double-take -- he was talking about transitioning from the corporate world into just doing VO, and I thought, "wait -- Bruce is already full-time... what devilish sorcery is THIS??"...

I have one of those Internet alert services that tells me when a new post comes up with my name. Dang, if that retired head of the Texas Forestry department just passed away earlier this month. He had an impressive biography.

I was thinking I could send a note of condolence, but that might be just a bit confusing.
