Anyone using CrashPlan with Pro Tools? I bit the bullet and added offsite backup with CrashPlan to my onsite backups. CrashPlan comes highly recommended, even with VO people. However, in the evening when I have it scheduled to run, the second it goes into operation, BAM... Pro Tools goes south, sometimes just crashing before I can put CrashPlan to sleep.
I thought it was named for what it protected against, not what it does.
Running Windows 7, Pro Tools 11. Anyone else having fun with this? _________________ Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the Paramedics

Hi Rick,
I've used CrashPlan on a Mac for several years. It is an extreme CPU hog. I've never had Audition crash, but it did slow it waaaaaay down.
I do a couple of things:
1.) Under "Settings" > "General" > "When user is present, use up to:"
I set to 0 percent CPU. This keeps CPlan from using any resources while you are working.
Optionally,
2.) Under "Backup" > "Backup will run:"
You can switch that from "Always" to "Between specific times" and choose times when you won't be working.
3) Under "Backup" > "Verify selection every:"
I set to 1 day at 3:00am. Probably not critical, but keeps CPlan from being intrusive during the workday.
Hope that helps. Overall, CrashPlan has been excellent. _________________ Dave Waters

What Dave said.
I've had Crashplan for years, and it's set to run at 2:00AM. Never had a problem. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

Same here. It doesn't run while I'm working. It has saved me at least 3 times. Once when my Quickbooks company file became corrupt and wouldn't open. I just downloaded a copy from the day before and was happy I had a backup. |

My conflict is, I’m not like you guys. I shut my equipment down every night about 11pm. I have CrashPlan set to run at 7pm, because hopefully I’ll be done with work by then. But on those occasions I’m not, it surprises me and crashes Pro Tools.
I got the program because it was supposed to work in the background so I could have it running all the time. Because it does not do what it’s touted to do, it forces me to be proactive in making sure it and I are not working at the same time. That’s not why I bought it _________________ Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the Paramedics

You might want to try #1 from above. I have CPlan running all the time, but don't allow it to use resources while I'm working. As soon as I'm done for a period of time, off it goes... _________________ Dave Waters
