Now for part deux: Bruce has, thankfully, stripped the code I used and the original message is now visible in all its pedestrian glory. Any takers?

I was interested in the title of the event... Listen Up - An Update on Audiobooks. Now... this may just be an unfortunate use of a common phrase and have nothing to do with "Listen Up" the audiobook publisher. Listen Up (the publisher) is currently in a major dispute with its narrators and the union regarding the very (very!) low rates they pay to their narrators.

However, looking at the speaker list... and the fact that it's moderated by the APA probably means it's nothing to do with Listen Up (the publisher). As BIGNY deals with all aspects of the book industry in NY, I doubt it will be specifically geared towards, or useful for, a narrator... although, networking is always an option at these events. I'm curious... but not $60 curious (and I'm laying off audiobooks at the moment... until the next one that is!)

As Bish says, the title of the event could be an unfortunate coincidence. Listen Up Audiobooks is in a dispute with SagAftra because of their abysmal rates.

Dan Zitt is the guy at Random House. I haven't seen him in a couple of years but I think he moved to LA a couple/few years ago - not sure if he's still there - but this would be a good chance to meet him. He's a nice guy. Everyone in audiobooks is nice. It could be a good networking event if you're looking to get involved in or do more audiobook work. Friendly crowd, narrators included.

The APA mixers are also good events.
