VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

Hey all! Hope all's great with you! Been awhile! : )

Looking for a little input for a new reliable Mac laptop for road use…

Done fine for a long time with my trusty MacBook Pro 13-inch
(Mid-2010) with 8GB RAM, and still good with 10.8/Lion… (hey
I'm a pragmatist and if it ain't broke…. well, y'know). It basically
comes down to stability for tracking mono audio and reliable wi-fi
when you bottom-line it as far as VO on the road… ability to maybe
get SourceConnect-ivity from where you're staying and bridging…
if you don't have to line up an ISDN studio.

Once upon a time, I thought hey, this model is the best 'cuz it's the
last model with an ethernet jack and where possible i would always
hardwire if it was an option over wifi. ANYway…

So I'd like at least 12.5" screen, and ample memory/drive…ideally
SSD retrofittable - and ample processing power for modest 2-track
editor demands.

On this Cyber/Black Monday/Friday-Whatever Weekend, would welcome
any shout-outs about good deals in the under-$1500 ballpark ("or less!" LOL) for an upgrade, especially with regard to processing power and speed!

I tend to lean toward pre-owned deals, refurbs, etc. on recent-generation models, not necessarily the absolute latest model of anything - when it comes to Mac stuff. Not a big factor for this application.

Macbook or Macbook Air if Portability's more important to you

Macbook Pro 15" if power and size are important to you

Macbook Pro 13" if you want best of both power/portability!

Whatever model you choose, get one pre-USB C, as you'll need peripherals to get more than a single port.

OWC (Other World Computing) macsales.com is a fantastic place for Mac Upgrades and Refurbished Units. I upgraded my 2011-macbook air's hard drive to a whopping 1-TB SSD and have had no issues or complaints (and if I can swap it out, anyone can!)

Thanks for the helpful summary Sean! The MBPro would definitely be the way to go and screen size is a tough call. Probably fine to stick with 13" and I appreciate that note re pre-USB C. Agreed OWC has always been great and I tend to forget that one can get a pretty good breakdown of how the specs have changed with each new generation on their site.

If silence is required, only the "Macbook" is fanless. I am a long time Macbook Air user, currently with an i7 13", and LOVE it. Best laptop ever...
Macbook Pro is way overkill, unless you are editing 4K video. Not silent when it's being worked hard (video related tasks), but extremely quiet when recording audio.

Good to hear from you George. Definitely get where you're coming from on this. I must say i find my 2010 MBP -pre i5/i7 processor is starting to invoke the fan with relatively low intensity editing in Peak after maybe 30 mins...and I'm fastidious about keeping minimal as open to avoid taxing it. Hence one reason I want something more robust and quiet. Having a hard time deciding on this one actually...
