Just curious what some of your favorite voice over blogs are (if any)? _________________ http://neilkhessvo.com |

None as almost all are created for SEO. I have yet to find a genuinely informed, engaging Voice Over related blog. Dave Courvoisier compiled his bog and published it as the Voice over bible. I intend copying everything I’ve written on here and publishing a book - How win Friends and have a successful marriage and a whole bunch a stuff! |

Many of the small selection I've seen involve hosts and guests loving the sound of their voice and over doing it. We used to call that "puking" in the radio days.
Also, between my work, my life, and my wife I don't have long stretches of time to listen to people reiterate a lot of things I already know.
Now I have often been interested in the presentation and the guests that George Whittam and Dan Leonard offer on "Voiceover Body Shop", but I don't have an hour and a half (aaargh!) to wade through all that extra stuff to get to the good parts. If they had a 10 to 15 minute edited version I could happily watch that.
If you're new to the biz, sure, soak up some knowledge for free with these various blogs or vlogs, but once you've hit a certain level of success, I'd say move on.

It’s a video blog, not a written blog. But vobuzzweekly is brilliant. Over 200 interviews with the top agents, producers, casting directors and actors in the industry. It’s a masterclass, and totally free. No nonsense, direct info from the best of the best. I find most blogs are ego driven rather than by and for professionals. |

I'll read an individual blog posting if it's something I find interesting but I don't follow any of them. I'm also careful what I say around bloggers, ever since a conversation that I thought was private ended up being blog fodder. |

Something else to keep in mind: as has become the case with "information dissemination on television," there is fact and there is opinion. Just because someone may appear to be knowledgeable doesn't make what they say necessarily factual or applicable to everyone in every situation.

Always in our peripheral vision are the VO Cheerleaders, the VO Cheerleader cheerleaders and the VO cheerleader cheerleading coaches. There is NO voice over football team and none of these people realise this fact.
Beware saying “really?” To any of the above, they bite!
What should you do? Ideally, simply ignore and get on with your job or if you walk in that world memorise the following.
“Dood! That is SO awesome!”
Repeat often. |

None... I agree with the SEO comments... and the ego/vanity publishing aspect. I usually find blog content is a thinly veiled attempt at selling something. There are some that I will read if an individual post looks interesting... or someone is trying to poke the bear and start a discussion (that's always good, clean, but ultimately pointless fun).
As for audio/video blogs or podcasts... they can be entertaining. VO-BS has some interesting guests, and some of the others that are just informal discussions can be interesting. I tried to watch VOBuzzWeekly, but it's just too high-energy and enthusiastic for me. I guess that's a cultural thing though. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Well, my advice is to get past that and dive into the content. From top agents to top CDs, producers, and actors, there are some amazing business nuggets. Now, it may be too LA centric for some. But for the zillions of "how do I get an agent/work in LA" there's no guessing game. You know exactly what DPN, Atlas. AVO, etc., demand from talent. As well as top game and animation CDs and promo producers.
I've also found if you approach your career like the big market voice actors your will be ahead of those in your market.
I think it also depends on what you want out of your career. I don't care about home studios so a blog on home studios wouldn't be for me. But what a promo producer at CBS is seeking in talent? Yup, I'm in! |

LA centric is a bit too provincial for me. There are 7 billion people on this planet and most don’t ........ |

You are correct, my friend. But your way of Vo will hold back most pursuing in LA. But on a forum all are equal. So it’s confusing when seeking career advice online. |

Best question for anyone to be asked is “What exactly do you want to do?” And the best follow up is “any idea?”
Globally the majority are unable to answer either part of the two part question above.
The question to ask of any blog, written or video, is “how will you reduce the time I spend unemployed?”
Suddenly Chuck in LA and Philip in Amsterdam BUT back in Portgordon after tea, don’t look so smart. |
