Do you record one long wav and then chop it up, or record one segment at a time and render? _________________ http://neilkhessvo.com |

Segments if I am self-engineering. Ye Gods. I would go mad if I tried to read it all and take notes, without stopping so that I have region numbers.
I'll record for an hour and then edit but every section/segment is its own region. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

It depends on how you work best and how mind-numbing the material is. If it's really droll I'll stop and edit for a while just to change my activity.

I use Word2WAV and Read2Record. If you are Mac, I think there is a way to run them?
They both automatically save each segment with the specified file name and advance to the next segment. Word2WAV allows you to set the screen to see the segment ahead and coming up along with the one you are recording so that you can maintain context.
I prefer Word2WAV for eLearning because of this. It also holds all the formatting of the text, so that you can see bold and italics. It also saves backup takes every time you stop and start over on the same segment.
For basic telephony prompts I prefer Read2Record due to its ability to quickly add silence to the beginning and end of the file.
I ALSO have Vox Studio which also has the batch processing feature, but with the ability to set the level of the incoming and outgoing audio so that you don't cut off the hard consonants on a file - like the "t" in eight. This is a specialized telephony software that not too many people have, but it has some unusual file formats that some older IVR systems still use. _________________ Playing for a living...

It all depends on the total length and my stamina/concentration. It also depends on the way the work is segmented (and the subject matter). Lots of variables. If it's a whole bunch or 2 or three minute sections, I'll just blast through marking the divisions as I go, breaking when I feel the need. If they are 20-minute sections, I may just do one at a time and take a short break. It's all about the breaks... sometimes I'll sit and review/edit what I recorded... or sometimes I'll just have a cup of tea and play for a while. But... all that goes out the window if I'm on a roll... well hydrated and alert, I can go a couple of hours before I notice. There are no rules... do whatever works for you that gives you a quality product with the smallest hassle-factor. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Damned autocorrect. I meant to write “droolingly boring twaddle” but the A.I. In my computer had different ideas.

eLearning - One contiguous file. Clicks for errors, Markers for sections (via iOS a ). Fix the errors, name the Markers. Split by Markers. On to the next job. Every once in a while I send Thomas a "thank-you" donation. Twisted Wave utterly rocks for this. Still demonstrably faster for anything that needs to be broken up into files. (MacOS)
audiobook/non-broken narrative - Punch & Roll. Studio One or Ocen Audio. _________________ JimEdgarVoices.com | JustAskJimVO.studio | Source-Connect: jimedgarvoices |

How I wish I had word2wav for the Mac - it's the only program I miss from my PC days. I know you can run with a windows emulation program but I'd rather not. I tried Vox Studio but I don't have a degree in computer science so it never got off the launch pad.
What do we use for click marking these days? Anything more elegant than singing 'ooooooooooooo"? _________________ Colin Day - UK Voiceover

I'm "old school," in that my recording space - which is a stand-up configuration - is not much more than the copy stand, the microphone and a tall stool to put my water bottle and other stuff on. So, without room or table space for a computer, I can't take advantage of software like Word2Wav (or its Mac equivalent) or other neat stuff.
So I record each script in a single file and edit later. If a single project is comprised of several scripts, I will edit each recording before making the next recording, just to break up the activity (and sit down for a while).
For click markers, I just snap my fingers. _________________ Mike

[quote="Mike Harrison"] So, without room or table space for a computer, I can't take advantage of software like Word2Wav (or its Mac equivalent) or other neat stuff.
A tablet is not much larger than a paper script so you should be OK. See my blog (www.word2wav.com/blog). A few - now happy - people have in fact been faced with this space problem. _________________ "I would have written a shorter letter but I did not have the time." |
