Just a reminder that in the "Announcement" post at the top of the Critique section, that I'm sure all newcomers read first before they post, I state:

I was married many years ago to a professional writer who wrote successfully for magazines and her own fine plays and short stories. She dreaded telling people she just met that she was a writer because immediately many would say:
Newcomer: "I'm a writer too!"
She: "What have you written?"
Newcomer: "Well I haven't finished it yet. Could you read it and tell me what it needs?"
And downhill from there.
