Anyone have a good time compression plugin they can recommend?
I'm currently using Adobe Auditions stock time compress but it starts to be pretty noticeable when you compress any more than 2 or 3%.
I hear Pitch n Time Pro is the best but it's also $800.
Just looking for something better that can turn :32 or :33 into :29 without being noticeable.
Thanks in advance! |

Having voiced and edited well over 100 political commercials recently, most being 30+ seconds worth of copy, I have even more experience. The time compression software plugins I have are fair at best, and like you've experienced trying to remove more than a second or so leads to artificial sounds.
My solution: first take every bit of space you can out of the voice track ... just keep it sounding as "natural" as possible. Then see if there are places you can actually overlap one word or phrase with another and then do a simple crossfade. Both words are still there and at the same time, like natural conversation, you can understand both. These don't work in every case but it often did. I also found common phrases I could read more quickly and yet would still be understood.

also make sure it's done before any other kind of processing. |

Bruce - your ideas sound really helpful ... could you post an audio file of one of your “compressed” spots? I’d love to hear the “slightly overlapping words” solution. _________________ Graeme Spicer

The time compression in REAPER is much better than Audition. You can do 8-10%, and 5% no problem, and you can compress the video at the same time as it does basic video editing.
That's a big reason why I dumped AA and went with REAPER for the one time $225 fee. I'll post some examples tomorrow. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Lance, how long until you were back to being as fast as you were on AA after switching to Reaper?
I'm so cozy with AA and my keyboard short cuts and macros and all, I'm scared it would take me years to get as fast with something different.
Or is more or less the same after a couple days? |

I am a big fan of Pitch N Time Pro. It is the best I've tried on voice and music. The stock Time Compression in Pro Tools is not bad either. _________________ Jason Shablik

Believe it or not, the time compression in Audacity (the one called "Change Tempo") is surprisingly good. You can speed something up by maybe nine or ten percent with no artifacts, and possibly crank it even higher. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.
