There's actually a serious point in here. I've lost count of the number of times I've be told, "We loved your demo and think you'd be a good fit for this job - script attached."
Yeah, but which cut did it for you? What do you actually want? _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Then there is a client who liked your demo, references the demo in the vague direction they give you - so you execute the read accordingly, and THEN - in a directed session - takes you on a roller-coaster ride throughout the script. At the end of it you don't know if you're coming or going. _________________ "What was that? An exhibition? We need emotional content." - Bruce Lee, Enter The Dragon |

i had this happen -
i arrive at studio on time - me the engineer & client #1 - client #2 is late - then later - client #1 says - let's just get started. i spend 30 minutes in the booth taking direction like a good boy. engineer says - we've got it & starts mixing it together when client #2 comes in, listens & says "who's this guy? that sounds nothing like the demo!" scared the crap out of me because i thought "who the hell did they hire?" turned out it was me - but the two "directors" were not on the same page about which demo they liked. long story longer, i did it all over, they felt bad & paid me for two sessions. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Good ending to a troubling story, Todd.
I've had clients hire me off of my demo and auditions. I'm a medium range baritone (or higher when needed) on everything I do. I can't tell you how many times I've been asked, "can you go deeper? ... more like James Earl Jones?"
No, but thanks for asking. Sheesh.

While this was intended to be a bit of a humorous post, I'm actually very thankful that I HAVE a demo that they can reference pieces from.
