|

Just curious.
Adobe Audition allows recording in waveform mode, by simply opening a new waveform window and recording in it, requiring it to be saved AFTER recording.
Recording is also possible in multi-track mode, where a session is created (or a previously-created template can be used) to record into. In this mode, Audition writes the file WHILE you record.
Which mode do you like and why? _________________ Mike

I always use waveform mode. The only time I use a session is if I'm adding music or SFX or recording more than one character. Even then, I record the waveform first and then create a session.
Most of the time, I just record first and then name the file and save it when I'm done. However, you can open a waveform and immediately name and save it before recording anything. Then, when you want to close the file, it will ask you if you want to save it. Because I generally don't close my files as I finish recording them, I sometimes forget to save my final edit before sending the file to the agent or client. Fortunately, this is a fairly rare occurrence, but it has been known to happen. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

All the above.
Remember, IF you record in MT mode you should "mute" (or solo the track you are recording with) other tracks. Otherwise this leads to crossover as AA will record the inputs/outputs of all tracks into the one recording.
If you can hear it, AA will record it (in MT mode).

Waveform... I only use multi-track when I need to use multi-track.
I keep a file on my desktop that is 20 secs of 48kHz, 24-bit, room tone (named "Peter Bishop - "). When I want to record something, I simply drag the file from the desktop to Audition, and I'm ready to go. It ensures the correct format and I don't have to faff around getting room-tone or anything. Just do a "save as" when done (and the blank file stays intact on the desktop). _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Same...except for when I'm doing punch and roll because I get a weird audio glitch in waveform mode and Everytime you punch in it changes the zoom range. Neither are an issue with multitrack mode and it works like a charm. |

Always record in MT mode here.
If you've ever had a power cut while recording in waveform mode, then you'll understand why! _________________ Colin Day - UK Voiceover

Yes. I believe the autosave function only works in multi-track mode. So if you're recording in waveform mode and you get a power cut, it's all gone. _________________ Colin Day - UK Voiceover

Sounds like a Brexit problem
I can say I've had Adobe crash in waveform (not a power cut) and it will recover. |

i can confirm what eddie said - i work primarily in waveform and have had successful restores after a power cut/crash. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis
