For some months I have been offering, mostly free, sometimes at a price, information relevant to our business. My degree of success? Underwhelming in terms of interest yet an unprecedented success in proving something about which I'd rather have been wrong, to the degree "I was convinced that Dwayne Johnson was an Austrian Prima Ballerina."

The best question I have ever been asked at a job interview?

"Do you want the job, Philip?" I thought for moment.

"No, not really."

Both of our lives were better for the truth.

"Dave, you are a great voice over coach; do I stand a chance in the world of voice acting?"

"Statistically, no. How much money and time are you prepared to lose in order to discover whether I am wrong or not?"

Full disclosure - From having the idea about testing the VO market to seeing some meaningful money hit my bank account I gave voice over work 2 years and my investment (no coaching and no home studio) less than $1,000 .

You are actively subverting an entire industry of people who see their own "success in voiceover" measured by how much money they can take from other voiceover talent.

Were I to start a VO Group somewhere it would be named "Cognitive Dissonance VO International." Open evenings and weekends, all members would be free to play and pontificate with the 1 rule "Do No Harm!" nailed to the door.

Want to pursue Voice Over work as a career? If you have a wealthy spouse or partner, personal wealth or a Trust Fund then do it, it'll be fun! Iffin y'all don't, get as well qualified in something as soon as possible then get a day job with H&R. On weekends and in the evenings be T.J Bhopal-Hiroshima III "The voice of Lurve".

There is an odd and inexplicable minority who are interested in "Who is THAT voice?" Some are real people, the rest are aspiring Voice Actors/Overs. Actors are people, Overs consist of six consecutive legal deliveries bowled from one end of a cricket pitch to the player batting at the other end, almost always by a single bowler. So most of us are simply 6 balls short of a Wicket.

To be an Actor one needs training, talent and luck or the wealthy other half in order to pay for the things in life like food and shelter. Few will ever get to that point. To be an Over you need a delivery that will take a Wicket and not be hit for 6. Options unappealing to any right thinking person.

Training, coaching and mentoring is unnecessary for those able to do the job and pointless for those who lack the inner weirdness.

I read and hear of so many people doing something (else) as an investment in their career. If it is an investment, set up a mechanism to measure the return. If one claims to be part of the Voice Over/Acting business one can not ignore the last word BUSINESS. Voice over hobby/distraction/toy? There are no rules, do as you please and enjoy every minute.

Do we also need a defence mechanism? Yes. A TV Evangelist knows why he needs another $30 million private jet but will never understand that your priority is to feed your family. We need to listen very carefully to the VO Evangelist who knows why their next great thing is worth the money yet is unable to point to one successful student and for the most part talks only in motivational quotes.

2) Basic instruction on shouting "How was that? unintelligibly.
3) All classes will last five days and participants will wear white. (anyone expecting one day while wearing colourful pyjamas will be excluded).
