Public service announcement to please go and double check that you have some form of antivirus and/or other protective measures on your systems. Our server got hit with that ransomware at 1am this morning and I'm still in the process of trying to figure out what we can do to clean up the mess.

You really, really don't want to go through this. Double and triple check.

We have some backups. Others were wiped out by a cloud system that was ill chosen.

There are two backups adages that my IT friends use:

One is the 3-2-1 method: "3 backups, 2 off site, 1 in a cloud system"
The other is "If you don't have 3 backups, you don't have one backup."

Follow-up: I've spoken with three separate people now who were hit with the exact same attack. Either we all were conveniently unlucky or there was a widespread event. Please make sure you're at least backed up.
