If you have ever hired a contractor to clean your carpets, how do they handle moving furniture and other stuff out of the way? Specifically, what if space to move things to is limited? Is it common to have a representative assess the situation first, and do these companies charge for those assessments? _________________ Mike

Since I have hardwood, I'm not sure, but I AM sure that the reputable companies have worked in may spaces that are smaller and have furniture around.
I'd call and ask. You don't know until you ask.
And if they DON'T want to answer your questions,
then you wouldn't want them in your home anyway. _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

Be sure to ask prospective companies if they’ll move all furniture (if that’s what you want) and presuming they use a wet process, do they put some kind of temporary protection under the legs of furniture that might keep stain from leaking into the carpet. It can happen!
It’s amazing what they can move using plastic sliders under the legs.

Last time I looked into hiring an actual carpet cleaning firm (which was a long time ago-I've been renting the pretty-okay cleaner from the grocery store), some did move furniture and some did not- and there may have been an extra fee involved for moving stuff. Time to think of new floor coverings here and that's the one aspect that has me leaning toward hard wood. _________________ Moe Egan

ot to the ot --- we just finished an engineered hardwood project here --- replaced carpet upstairs & on the two stairways --- it went down super-easy and we absolutely love it! now we just blow all the dog hair into 40 or 50 pound stacks with a leaf blower! _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis
