if you are in a part of the country that is expecting ice/snow, and if you have a generator, start & run it for a few minutes BEFORE you need it. (quarterly is a good idea)
often, the generator sits in the garage offering false hope. it is very common for the diaphragm in the carburetor to dry out from lack of use and become "non-flexy"*. it's something you can fix for a dollar & in 5 minutes, but it's harder in the dark & cold.
a message from your friendly neighborhood hillbilly.

We bought one during our snowmageddon last winter but have yet to start it up. I've been studying videos of transfer switches and separate breaker boxes and will just have to pick one and hire someone to install it. Depending on which way you go they can cost as much as the generator itself.

VERY good advise, Todd!
I have a whole house generator that does an automatic test once a week.
BEST investment we ever made.
Also just got my propage topped off this morning, since we are expecting up to 9" of snow starting tomorrow night. _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

i have the availability to plug into the house via the breaker box. my way is not for the uninitiated anc CAN be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. it helps to have a dad & a son who are electricians. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Why does the fact that you use this method NOT surprise me, Todd? _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!
