Here's a list of 9 of the best voice actors ever. Decent list, however, just 9?? Put to the question I'm sure we could add a few dozen more:

Agree, as would the majority, with Mel Blanc. The rest? Genuinely have no opinion. |

Well, I certainly cannot argue with anyone on this list. All brilliant.
But this is just a random list from a random person who writes on a random film blog. In other words, just one person's opinion. Why 9? No idea. There are a zillion of these lists all over the net. Mostly done just to get hits and attention. Nothing more in the way of journalism. This list is as comprehensive as anyone's opinions on any social media platform.
Now, if Variety or Hollywood Reporter did a top 100 voice actors of all time? That would be cool. I know many writers on staff at the better/more professional trades and they do their homework. It's not just one fan's opinion. They'll research full careers, box office returns, ad sales, etc. And they would probably not use "Best Voice Actors of all Time" if only listing animation voice actors. A comprehensive list of all vo genres would be interesting, not just animation, and would better represent the topic title.
But again, this is indeed an impressive list. Though, I think I would swap out Casey Kasem for Daws Butler. Hard to have a list like this without June Foray, Paul Frees, Don Messick, etc. |

Speaking of Mel Blanc, about 10 years ago I produced and narrated an hour long audio documentary for the Society of the Inner Ear on Mel's career, and it featured several of his best bits from radio and TV as well as a bio interspersed. Here's a link if you'd like to sample. There are some great laughs to be enjoyed!

There's a natural generational bias in any list as well...
...and so my own bias has me proposing Ken Nordine.
Bob wth your mention that it has to be done WELL, it's likely more a top 100. _________________ SoundscenesDC, main talent and production offices just 385k km up the gravity well in LuNoHoCo Center, old satellite studios still bookable at the future site of Johnson City! |
