Just wanted to say hi. I'm relatively new to VO (about 3yrs), but I've done a lot of homework, footwork, and yes...some actual voicework. I'm excited to be a part of this forum so I can learn (and maybe even teach) some more about my passion - voiceovers.

Feel free to check out my website, demos, etc. I appreciate any and all feedback...even if it's to say I suck.

So I'm in the middle of attempting a marketing/advertising first strike...and wanted some input. I've started out with postcards (that I'm sending to over 400 studios) that I plan to update every 2-3 months. Business cards go to everyone in "the business" that I encounter, along with a CD copy of my demos. I've also been trying to find every online outlet that I can in order to find more ways to "get the word out." I've even done some cold-calling of production directors at TV and private studios.

I'm curious as to how some of you folks have tried to promote yourself and your business.

Don,

You are on track with marketing. Although there are some great tricks of the trade you might look into as well.

Check out James Alburgers Book, The Art of Voice Acting, vol. 3 (http://www.voiceacting.com/aova-se/) and "LoveNotes: Branding and Marketing for Voice Over Artists" by some guy named Frank Frederick (I had to get it in here somewhere, didn't I?).

Also, if you are able, look into attending VOICE (VoiceOVer International Creative Experience) in Las Vegas in March. www.voice-international.com

Loads of information and education in each of the above.

Oh, in case I didn't mention it, welcome aboard THE board.

Toodles

Thanks. I already have Alburger's 2nd edition...always a newer and better version, I'll need to look into that. I looked to find your LoveNotes: Branding and Marketing for Voice Over Artists, (google, amazon, etc.) but didn't find it. Where might one acquire this informational powerhouse?

Donovan,

It's great to see you on this board. I'm just down the road from you in Charlotte. (I think I remember meeting you a couple of years ago at one of the Dan O'Day Summit conferences in Los Angeles?)

I like your sound. I think you'll do well. Especially since you really have your marketing ducks in a row. Good for you.

If you want a full blown critique (with no holds barred) post your demos and/or website in the Critique section here.

One of these days we'll have to see if we can get a meeting organized with all of us North Carolina residents. There's at least 2 other VO-BB members there in or near Raleigh, 3 of us in Charlotte, Russ who lives in Canton and Willie who is in Lexington County, I think. (I may be missing a few.)

Oh, and I think Frank's book isn't released yet, but real soon now. Frank?

LoveNotes will be released as soon as it gets printed... This is one of tne problems I have found with the DIY (Do It Yourself) publishing technique.

It will be available on Amazon and online at the website (not yet online - due to no book out - yet...). I will let you know... oh, it will also be available at VOICE 2007 in Las Vegas...

Yes, I was at the Summit in '05. I thought your name was familiar... I didn't make it there in '06. I got married last July, so the $ was on "E". I'll be there this year though.

Currently, the plan is to be at VOICE in March. I'm not even sure if I'll be able to go, but I'm excited anyway!
