Several years ago I got to know a journalist who had a column syndicated around the UK. I met her because she wrote a piece based on a fictional character who developed a crush on a TV voice over, the voice over was real!
At the time she wrote the piece she didn't know me but her editor put us in touch and we have remained firm friends ever since.
My friends spends most of her time writing copy for corporate newsletter but has always aspired to be a novelist. A few weeks ago she was accepted by a literary agent and within the last few hours has just heard that the agent has managed to get her a deal for her first book and her yet to be written second book. If that were not sweet enough the publisher has made the deal even better by giving her a $200,000 advance.
This story is proof of two things. Persistence pays off and nice people always do well given time. |
