The Walls of Troy were breached last night because your Hecuba left the gates open.

I normally have registrations completely disabled, and as new folks here know, people need to send me a letter if they want to join.
I enable registration, do all that fooferah, and then disable registration again.
Except last night.
My Playstation and its siren call. . . .

13 spammers overnight.
13 zombies.
All dispatched and the city is safe again.

My apologies, and a hearty thanks to Mary McKitrick for sending me an e-mail flare.

Amazing how quiet it gets until you leave something open, isn't it?

I thought I was hit with Virus this morning...but it turns out that my Mcafee Site Advisor had simply lost it's mind and was looping hundreds of error message dialog boxes on my desktop...after 90 minutes on a chat with McAfee via my laptop - on my desk infront of my desktop (Now which keyboard/mouse am I supposed to use?...) - Their "Clean up the crap" program didn't work...but I finally uninstalled & re-installed (WITHOUT Site Advisor!) and all is well....but it was NOT the way I planned to start my Saturday!

(NO PC / MAC debates please! I like my PC! This was the first real problem I've had in years!)

EDIT:
Thanks for protecting us DB! & Bruce & BOB - YEAH - Can't wait to meet you guys!!!!

Liz

besides, most of the new nasties don't care what the platform is. If you're connected to a network, you're fair game.

DB, make sure that this board has the latest patches sometime today. There's a Turkish group that is hijacking boards with older exploits (it's an Islamic group that denies that there was an Armenian or Jewish genocide... lovely folks really).

They're particularly going after php-bb based boards, but their attack vectors are looking at anything that hasn't been patched against recent buffer overflow attacks.

The Turks already hacked this place once.

Every time I use patches, I have to work a day to fix this place.
Upgrading is a pain in the neck.

LOL!

BTW: it's a new wave. I think details are now posted at CERT.

If you have a direct link to an article, post it or send it, willya? I don't see anything new at CERT that involves a phpBB vulnerability.
