I did indeed let my guard down, as Maiku said. That's what I get for registering people late at night.
A thousand apologies. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

No Worries my dear. You do a stirling job of keeping the purveyors of luncheon meat from our shores.
Indeed, I do believe that those of us at Vegas should take our illustrious and hard working Board Mistress/Czar/Empress for an all expenses paid night out on the town.

I'm not sure, but when there is a breach in the system, I usually get a surge of spam... and then it drops off. _________________ "Bailey"

I've had one newbee contact me asking for opinions and advice, that sort of thing - nothing rude or abusive though. My wesite's webmail program includes a little utility called Boxtrapper that makes it easy to flush the crap that comes around once in awhile. |

The spammers that come here when I forget to disable registrations aren't e-mail spammers, they're board-bots.
The regular harvesting of e-mail addresses isn't any different than it always is on these public boards. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Today, I opened registration so I could register a new member, and stopped to talk to my huusband for about 10 minutes.
In the window of time, a spammer registered and POSTED.

Yes, but divorce lasts longer.
DB: Is it really necessary to open registration for you to put new folks in? I'm surprised that the admin controls don't allow you to do that regardless of the registration status for the rest of the world. _________________ Justin S. Barrett

Yep.
I had to disable registrations completely.
Even with admin-only control on who is allowed to beome a full "member" here, anyone under the sun can "register" and wait pending approval, and they show up as "new members" whether they're approved or not.
I was wasting hours a week vetting registrants.
So, now that I've disabled the registration process, people are instructed to write to me.
I open registration and register new folks myself, then close registrations again.
It is MUCH LESS time-consuming, believe it or not. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I understand that part, Deirdre. What confuses me is why you, as the admin, don't have the ability to register users any time you please. Why must you be forced to open registration, add new members, then close it again? Why aren't you given the power to just add them without the open/close steps? This seems like an odd oversight in the design of the system. _________________ Justin S. Barrett

It would be nice to add folks as I deem fit, I just don't seem to have the option presently. _________________ DBCooperVO.com
