I laughed when I read the last line...
My result: The Midland
"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.
Not sure about the accuracy of this...my Midland husband's results showed him as being from Pennsylvania!
Edit: I should've said my Missouri born husband's results said Philadelphia. Which surprised me because I know more than one person who grew up in PA & they sound different from him. Hubby most definitely has General American Speech.
As for me? I'm only Midland when I'm working. _________________ Mary

Quote: | "North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot. |
Well, yeah, I guess so....
But I did think the characters in Fargo sounded quite out of the ordinary. _________________ Elaine

Well, Pennsylvania is part of the Midland. But it's like they say, this is the general American accent, and you really could be from anywhere. It's what sounds American to Americans. |

I tried it. Apparently I have an "Inland North" accent. Strange that. I thought I was a Brit.
And as you know, only the Brits have no accent

Mary,
You and I received the same answer...The Midland. Not surprising considering I was raised in Dallas, TX. Of course, I was born on a cotton farm out in old west Texas- you should have heard me around the age of 10! Each word had at least a dozen syllables! _________________ Threadjackers local 420

I'm midland as well. How did they know I had a good voice for radio or TV? INCREDIBLE! |

I came back with Midland as well and I was born and raised in Utah. I am beginning to think that this quiz might not be too accurate. |

I love "the Midlands".
I'm from Northern California, but spent most of my growing up years in Hawaii.
There doesn't seem to be a choice for that.
heh heh heh. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

In the past 15 years I've lived in Virginia, Ohio, Wisconsin, South Carolina and now Kentucky.
I have no idea how to classify my accent but it called me a midlander too. Good thing since TV/Radio is my bread & butter. |

Midland... pretty close... since I was born and raised in Maryland for 19 years. _________________ "Bailey"

OK. The machine's broken. I was born and raised with an Arizona accent which is slightly southern with a dash of midwestern, and comes out being considered something of a Western accent.
These guys say I definitely have a Boston accent, yet look at the bars underneath. As I said, the machine's broken.
By the way, one of my grandmothers was a speech coach to Hollywood actors back in the 20's and 30's, and she taught me the difference between Mary, merry and marry, but I still pronounce all three of them MEH-ree like a lot of folks.
