My Studio Projects C1 has a 10dB pad switch on the back. What does that switch do? When would I want to flip that switch?

-10db pads are usually to compensate for really loud instruments that are too close to the mic.

My mic also has a low pass filter which I have to use when the Tornado jets from RAF Lossiemouth are flying near my house.

I'm still trying to design a "hollering posse of 2 and 3 year old girls" pad for my mic.

Heh heh heh....let me know when you get the "hollerin' posse" pad and maybe I can adapt it to the "small dog jumps on SQUEEKY toy" pad Smile

Oh...yeah, what I stopped here for. My mic has a -10 db AND -20 db pad on the same switch (left for -10 and right for -20...center is off). It stays off most of the time. It also has a low cut filter switch....it stays off too. I use the low cut on my preamp instead.

Even when I was engineering full time, about the only time I remember using the -10dB pad for VO was for those high-energy screamin' "Giant Sale this weekend only" or monster truck type spots.

Philip -- Low pass filter -- I tired that too, but I think the fighter jets from MCAS Miramar are too low. Sometimes I think I can check the tire pressure as they roar overhead. We get the thumping lows of the massive helicopters too.

We had the Blues Angels fly inverted over the house during an ari show and could see the freckles on the pilot as he waived at us. I’m still trying to find the right EQ settings. Maybe a booth within a closet.
