After all the posts I've read, the advice I've gotten (thanks!), the manufacturer, retailer and enthusiast sites I've visited, I finally made some purchases for recording gear. And now? Now...I have to WAIT for the stuff to be shipped & to get here. Aaargh! _________________ Lou Zucaro

LOL! I don't know what's worse... earmarking the money for the purchase, or waiting for it to get into your hands afterwards for use.
I'll be playing that game in a few weeks with a new setup I'll be cobbling together between May and June.
Gotta love it _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

I feel your pain. Do you find yourself checking the tracking numbers several times a day? I'm bad about that. And then I start bitching to my wife, "oh come on, it's been sitting in Cleveland for 4 hours already... get that thing on a truck" _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Exactly what I was thinking.
How insensitive to start a thread about new equipment and not tell the junkies what it is... |

Sorry! I decided to build a DAW and use it running XP until things get up to speed with Vista. Only problem is I dunno if everything's gonna play nice together, so gimme some time on that and then if it works I'll report back afterward.
But for the audio interface itself I decided to go with the EMU 1616m sound card with breakout box. I read that the D/A convertors are really good and it also has a bunch of effects in hardware. Not sure how many of them I'd ever use, but they're there.
Then I got a PreSonus Bluetube DP mic pre, a pair of AKG K240S headphones and some misc stuff like a mic stand, music stand, pop filter blah blah blah.
I decided not to get a mic yet...I have a couple of mics with XLR connectors that we had for an old karaoke DVD player, so I figured I'd make sure all the other hardware jives, testing with those mics, then once I know the system works in general, I'll audition a few mics from someplace like Guitar Center.
So I'm hopeful that my research into the computer hardware part of things pays off when I put the whole thing together.
I'll report back after I've built the thing and got it working. _________________ Lou Zucaro

Oh, we are going to have so much fun learning about DAW setups with YOUR new system . Options like dual-booting, minimal active desk-top, and all the other performance enhancing (can I say that on the radio?) tweaks.
Really, thanks for sharing your excitment. Now, check that tracking number again and make sure it's all not hung up in Albuquerque.

Will do, cap'n...
I actually canceled the order for the motherboard I got. It was backordered and they said they had none on order. Huh? So I got a different one that should be just as good or maybe better.
The EMU arrived today. It's so lonely. _________________ Lou Zucaro
