VO Talent Brad Lavelle is dead.

Apparently this happened about five - six weeks ago, but I hadn't heard (oddly enough we'd been e-mailing each other a wee bit up to the time of his death).

I know that a lot of folks knew him, so for those who weren't aware, additional information is on his website.

"I can't stress enough that what we do as voice actors is, in the whole, relatively meaningless to the world ... the best we can ever hope to achieve is informing or entertaining a public that probably won't even recognise our existence."

The man who said that deserves the utmost respect. I can write something today that would give him a great deal of pleasure - Until today I'd never heard of him.

I could have learned a lot from Brad... and I probably will.
Much of his thoughts concerning voice acting and also applicable to life.
May you rest in peace, Brad, and not be forgotten.

Greg, thank you for letting us know. It is a savage sadness to learn about great talent only once they're gone.

DB,

much like this place Brad was doing something he really enjoyed while not performing, teaching others what he knew. Mainly he was working with people on another board that focuses on the Amateur side of things (radio plays, fandubs, things such as that). Teaching them whatever he could about voiceover, acting, and just life in general.

a loss such as that, really diminishes us all.

Greg,

Thank you for posting this. I'm deeply moved by just the first bits of what I've read in his very thoughtful essays collected at the bottom of the list of links. Deirdre said it well, a savage sadness indeed.

What a fine career, forged by someone who was able to keep it in perspective. A tip of the hat and a raising of the glass to Mr. Lavelle.

I really appreciated this post. Upon stopping by Brad Lavelle's site and reading deeply into his VO 101 journals, this man was clearly a very talented voice actor, creative thinker and a success in his own right, who gave a bit of himself to help other aspiring voice actors, I would've loved to know him. I imagine he was a very kind, smart, and generous talent. I certainly wish his site stays around as legacy for the benefit of others.

O. M. G.

I spent two years in acting school with Brad in the mid 1970s when we were both so very young... Can't tell you how devastating this news is on both a personal and professional level.
