Anyone on the board have one? I might need one if I am in too windy of a location where I'm moving. I am curious how good they are at reducing the ambient noise.
If wind wasn't an issue and the room was relatively small, could simply sound treating the walls be effective enough to where the difference would be negligible? |

I have a small one...it's pretty good. Today it was cool out, nice breeze. I had the windows in my office open and still was able to record just fine inside the booth.
I mean, it's not gonna block out a guy with a lawnmower or leaf blower, but just ambient noise it takes care of pretty well.
I'm still working on getting the right sound, though, but just from a standpoint of blocking out ambient noise, I do think it works pretty well. _________________ Lou Zucaro

I've got the 42"x42" model, and my experience is similar to Lou's. I live right off a very busy street, and it does a good job of cutting out almost all of the traffic noise. Only the loudest sounds -- Harleys, cars with no mufflers, honking horns -- get through. |

Thanks guys that helps. Looks like I'm going to need the one with the extension. My head will be scraping the ceiling in the normal version. |

My husband & I are in the throes of building an isolation booth. I've been updating the progress weekly on my blog with pix too. We just moved it into the house and began assembly today.
I picked up he plan at
http://www.dawbox.com/DAWBOOTH.htm
It has been quite a journey over the past 3 weekends. We still need to wire it and set up the vent, then add shelves & move the mic etc. It isn't as "pretty' as the Whisper Room which I think starts at about $3500. I think by the time its all done, I'll have about $800 into it, and I am hoping it'll be pretty wonderful for me. My studio is all ripped up now and I can't post any of the latest pics, plus I have stuff going on this weekend I am leaving soon for.
Bye,

That sounds like it might work out well for you Bobbin. I am curious to see how happy you are with the finished product. I am so bad at building stuff. It's a challenge for me to even put together furniture from IKEA.
I will either need to buy a pre-fab or find someone when move that is more inclined to that type of work than I am. |

Rich, I think a few of the booth manufacturers are located in Oregon....I think GK Acoustics is...I could be mistaken and also VocalBooth.com. That will save you some perhaps on shipping etc. Just an FYI in case you didn't know. _________________ Ben

Thanks Ben. I knew about GK Acoustics being in Oregon but haven't looked where it is located recently. I will investigate it further once I get settled up there. |

I was just checking out the vocalbooth.com site. I am sure this is going to be a problem for me with any of them but the interior height is 82". I'm 82" tall. |
