Basic studio fees start at around $400. For this the film company or distributor gets one trailer for use in one cinema, not much use for most movie trailers. With use fees for multi cinema use plus TV cuts and all the other places one is likely to see the trailer it would be reasonable to see this figure rise to in excess of $15,000.

I could give you the full calculations but they're very dull.

Yes or if you feel that it's a low profile project and budget may be an issue you could offer a buy-out. Your minimum session fee plus say 200% for unrestricted rights to use.

I've got a similar trailer gig upcoming, and am in the same pickle quoting a fair rate. It's for a straight-to-cable film, but it will also be used in their EPKs; there are also customized drops that will air in each cable market (i.e. "Call *local cable co.* at 1-800-***-****").

If this client wasn't someone who had contacted me directly months ago, I'd be tempted to refer him to my agent and let them wrangle the best deal. Wink
