For those few of us who find ourselves wondering why customers at voice sites don't have the brains and awareness to appreciate our magunderful brilliance.....
The story: In those rare respites between (numerous) naps and (infrequent) jobs, I avidly follow voiceover goings-on. So at a particular chat place, two successful voicers got into a good-natured slagging contest this morning, see?
Twenty minutes after a return volley, one voicer (Sid Whatley by name; six-figure independent who likes to frolic in the voicing playgrounds) responds with THIS:
www.hemmingfordbaseball.com/VOICINGPAGE.html

The moral of the story: Twenty minutes. Borderline brilliance. This is what we're all up against.

Part of my talk at VOICE 2007 involved understanding the difference between being great, good, not quite ready for prime time and simply not getting it. This is great stuff.

Something else I tell my students is that to really compete with the great ones, you need to be able to have someone hand you 5 different pieces of copy and in 5 minutes be able to do each piece of copy 5 different ways. Very important to have the ability to creatively get your head wrapped around both the big picture and the details.

As usual, you're absolutely dead-on, Connie.

This game is now teeming with drop-dead voice and production talent. Nobody anywhere can make a living off voice-site gigs; the competition is obviously awesome.
I'd take 5 hours to come up with anything resembling what Sid Whatley conceptualized, wrote, voiced, produced, and voiced in 20 minutes.
Twenty frigging minutes!
There's a handful (hi, Banksie!) of independents who could do that.

All voice sites are our Babbling Gymnasiums. We work out. We flex. We admire each other bods.
It's an awful lot of fun.

But it ain't where the mic meets the pre-amp, if you know what I mean.

Right on Robert! As long as everyone realises that, then we're all happy campers.

Todd...I can't help but notice what an awesome physique you have in your avatar! No wonder Connie's giving you such a hug!

Body Snatcher on! Laugh
