Sammich, Massachusetts is a beautiful, historic town at the gateway to Cape Cod. Isn't that where one of the bridges across the CC Canal is??! Wink

Not really. They are about 30-40 miles apart. There are so many cities with Native American names in the Pacific Northwest. A lot of them sound similar. Smile

Same goes for the Atlantic Northeast, Rich. When I first when in to read for Maine AIRS, I was handed a list of town with Native American names (or Anglicized versions thereof...) in Maine. I shuffled through half of them and got some others correct. Big change from lil ol' Texas, I tell ya. One thing I did learn: "keag" = "keg".

I just did a gig for a client in Singapore -- the word in question was "schedule" -- recorded it both the British ("shed..") and American ("sked..") ways. I just touched base with the client on his preference, then edited out the non-preferred snippet before sending on the final file.

Usually I try to pin the client down on pronunciations immediately upon receiving the script, but sometimes it just doesn't work out that way.

The sloppy-lazyism that jumps out the most for me is when "ing" becomes "een" -- as in "We're leav-een now."

...like nails scrap-een down a chalkboard...

**sigh**

Does anyone else have a problem with congradulations.

Makes me cringe every time.

Philip,

igknowledge - A state of being in which one knows far less than one believes one knows, and demonstrates same, repeatedly.

Happy to be of service.
