I saw this today and thought this may be the one to put me over the edge...without major changes- I will not renew...I don't have time for this! (meaning the constant hitting of 'delete' in my inbox!)

Here is another, must be the same "client":

"This recording will be used for a security company's warning system.

There is no preference between a union/non-union talent.

$200 budget.

The recording should be forwarded to the email address in MP3 format.

Entired script provided

Two different readings of the following scripts should be recorded..."

Danger, danger Will Robinson... (O.K., that was not part of the script, but I HAD to do it).

I particularly like the second and third lines...

Toodles

Supposedly the "big changes" will be brought forth in September. While the budgets are getting scrappy, the script/project quality is getting dire too. I miss when I was looking forward to at least working through the next batch of scripts in the morning.

I'd do the posted job if I got it, but I'd tell them that "I absolutely, positively need to be paid by tomorrow afternoon, ASAP."

For a national spot on TV?

I don't do local spots for $150 (with rare exception), let alone nationals for that price,

Thanks V123, you've convinced me not to join as a paying member Smile

What's sad is the number of people I know who would gladly do the spot and be thankful for it. Then again these are the same people who derided the CNN article that recently featured some of our own with such great quotes as "I've never heard of them... so they must not work that often."

It takes all kinds I guess.

How dare they say something bad about "our people!!!!"

On the other hand...I'll just let Kara & Moe laugh all the way to the bank!

Yes, my mental response to reading the aforementioned comments was simply this:

"The ignorance is strong in this one..."

Just catching up on the board this morning...I've been too busy...um...working.

Warning: Rant ahead. Proceed at your own risk.

Here's an interesting story for y'all....Back in the day I was in radio... Very big fish, very small pond. EVERYONE knew me. Three governors in a row told me that I was the first voice they heard EVERY day- I was an anchor/talk host on a news talk AM station. I could never yell at my kids in the grocery store, cause even though people didn't know what I looked like, they knew what I sounded like. However working in radio in a small market, I was literally living paycheck to paycheck. I was told once that working in radio was a "prestige" job. But prestige don't pay the bills.

Fast forward....I'm doing voice work full time- four years now. No one knows me....except my regular clients who hire me so often I don't have time (or need) to actively market myself to new clients... When I bump into friends or old radio fans they say "Wow, you must be busy, I hear you EVERYWHERE"....meaning in the local market....which is less than 10 percent of my work.

Here I sit in Crayola purple and Tinkerbell green studio - ...in my bare feet and actually today I AM in my PJs....taking a break between edits....living happily ever after.

We live in a culture where the Cult of Personality is our new religion...where worth is defined by celebrity....thanks but no thanks. I'm sorry, this response has gotten soooo long, but I was a bit miffed when I read what people were saying about Kara and myself on another board ((boy did I edit this next sentence out...and DB I"ve already grounded myself for what I wrote and took out))

As I said to DLF, I'm a staff Sgt. in the VO army....I'm not in LA or NY because right now family comes first. I'm raising my family and paying my bills doing Voice work full time...on my terms. I have great clients. I have great kids. And I'm able to BALANCE the two. My clients know my kids come first ("don't call after 5 - that's mommy time"). Thanks for letting me vent...I'd write more...but I actually have to get back to work. Geez.
cool

same boat here - as i'm sure are a lot of us. if i lost ALL of my local work it wouldn't hurt one bit.

i've been doing actual VO work since 5:15 this AM ... why so early? well ... i was up anyway. now, barring $ack$ arriving in my driveway, i'll take the kids to the lake this afternoon.

Ah Moe, those heady days of New England news, eh? Methinks we were on the air at the same time, I handling the more, uh, liberal Green Mountain State, and you, living free or dying trying. I could have written that above para myself, save for my extra responsibility to run into the FM studio to flip the toggle switch since Mr. PrimaDon couldn't do it.
(He's in jail now. Karma?!)

As for the "other" board ... there's another board? Pshaw! Kiss
