Hey Ben!
OK...yea...OK...I have A LOT of work to do!
Really nice!
Willie: I would absolutely ask for help producing a Promo demo....Brian?...
Which brings up another question:
When you are booked to do liners/IDs are you generally expected to produce them as well, or just do the dry voice? (I know Brian, Peter & Todd can do it all, but for us mere mortals, what's the norm?)

Liz,
Feel free to shoot me a pm or an email. I'd love to work with you on a demo.
While there are many people who provide full production there are many talent who provide the dry tracks. I got hooked on all this by producing sweepers with voices like Jim Cutler, Jennifer Vaughn, Jeff Berlin and others at the various radio stations I've worked at. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Liz,
All of my imaging clients get dry voice tracks only. _________________ Be well,

yeah, forgot to say in my last post. Dry tracks are much more common and generally more cost effective for the station if they have a decent production director. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

well ... outside of a boxcar-load of promos and concert/event spots - i have never done it. the stations i worked for always had an outside voice for imaging ... i just produced 'em. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Imaging remains my bread and butter currently. And yes, I'm also a former radio guy.
I produce very selectively these days depending on the client and budget. Most of my work is dry voicing and I'd like to get the point where it's all that way. There's a sense of freedom that comes with imaging that isn't found in most commercial/promo/narration projects. In most cases, you aren't being uber-directed by a producer on the other end and it's fun to put different spins on things and an outtake now and then.
As Brian already said, there's lots of competition and it's harder than ever to find new gigs, 2007 is also bringing a disturbing trend where lots of stations are trying to cut back on imaging and sound like an Ipod..... with a lot of commericials and no choice, of course. In one market, I got dumped in favor of an in-house salesperson shouting the frequency every three songs in the wierdest voice possible. Wow. _________________ Joe Szymanski

This is exactly why I actively discourage people from "getting into" radio. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

What's the difference between a radio DJ and a pizza?
A pizza can feed a family of 4.
But seriously folks. . . .
We simply need to retain our cretivity.
Radio always will need smart, well-trained voices.
Sometimes a bomb needs to drop for them to realize it, but they eventually do. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Ok. If you guys are going to start doing "one liners" I'm going to have to get involved. lol
I loved being in radio...but not the last days. Back in the 70's we made it up as we went along. Remember Programmers Digest? But today, I think I can make a whopping $25 per "voicetracked" show. Todays owners see stations as real estate. Gone are the days of feeling "responsible to serve the community."
I love doing stagers and ID's for broadcast. I have a hand full of regular stations but none in my area...until recently. I did 15 years of my morning show from their building. These vo's will be produced into I"s and Promos in the same room that was my old control room.
Mary had a bathing suit,
the latest style, no doubt.
But, when she got inside of it
she was more than halfway out.

Same thing that fouled up the "music" part of the music industry. Artist development? That is soooo last century. Show up ready to make us a bunch of money or begone.
OTOH: A friend of mine who's still on the air (and has been since the early 80's) still says "a bad day here beats a good day in a cubicle." _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.
