In Kentucky, the pronunciation of our largest city (Louisville) is just about anything but what the carpetbaggers and other outsiders say, which is: Lu-ee'-vill. Natives kinda swallow the middle and end of the name to come out something like: Luh'-a-vuhl. Am I right Tom, Jim and Melissa (KY. board members)?

It has to be in the air up here in Utah. We have towns named Tooele (two-will-a) and Paragonah (I won't try to elaborate on how to say it). Then we Hurricane ...No! not "hurr-a'-cane" it pronounced "hur-a'-kin", and it gets worse from here...
However, the local pronunciations are still not as terrible as in Washington State where they have mixed Indian names with American English and French and Quebecqua. No one knows how to pronounce anything properly.
however, my most hated word is "regularly". I just cannot seen to say that word in a :30 second commercial with :45 seconds of copy - for the life of me.

| I'm not a native Kentuckian but I've always called it Lou-UH-vuhl. But I've also heard life-long residents refer to it as Lou-EE-ville... so who knows! |

Tillicum
Chewelah
Tumwater
Sammamish (I'd like a turkey and Cheese Sammamish, please)
Washougal (why? Is she dirty?)
and my personal favorite which cannot be avoided as there is a major county fair there and is somehow pronounced in only 2 syllables:
Puyallup
Thank god I live in a town called Monroe.

Thought you'd get a kick out of this.(In addition to the La JAW La- I've also heard La JOELLA- BUUUT no matter HOOOW you say it, as they would say down South- There AINT too many PO' FOKS livin there in La Jolla HUH? !!!!! LOL)
Anyway, When I lived in "GOD'S COUNTRY"(San Diego) we ALLWAYS refered to SAN FELIPE as San FELL-EP-A. When I lived in Houston, there WAS/IS a major street( and a VERY MINOR Town about 75 miles west of Houton) called SAN FELIPE. They pronounce BOTH as " San Fill Ip E"

Trust me, that's not unique to just Washington... I've found myself watching the local evening news more so I can become familiar with the pronunciations for when I do my shift for Maine AIRS.

Don,
We have Morena Blvd. here - I always try to say More-EN-ah...as opposed to More-EEN-ah. Sort of with a Latin twist. We also have Poway - POW-WAY, which is really an Indian word that is supposed to be said POW-WHY - I think.
Today I said LEE-Ver instead of LEH-Ver a few times in that script with the "Web Wipe cartrigde." Not sure where I picked that up, but I also sometimes say Route instead of ROOT for Route 66.
But I think the weirdest brain fart I've had is on the word "Surveillance." I once said "surveyance" in a session and had the hardest time putting the "els" in that word. Must have been in a sentence with La Jolla.
