on a daily basis? Or am I just a geek?
Also, if a company/potential client scopes out your site do you follow up with an e-mail or let it go? |

Are you speaking of responding to an inquiry to your site? Shouldn't that be a priority? If you are not speaking of an inquiry.... doesn't that get into the "permission marketing" thing?
Good question. _________________ Wild Willie Edwards

Not a direct inquiry. I'm talking about looking up the IP addys of my site visitors.
I do it often just to see who's looking... |

Tom,
I'm a geek, too, I guess. I look at my server logs just about every day. _________________ Be well,

Good to hear I'm not alone Bob.
I've had a few companies visit the site lately that I'd LOVE to work with. From a marketing perspective... has anyone ever had success following up with companies that visit your site unsolicited? I'm guessing it wouldn't be the easiest thing to do since you've got a company name and little else to work with. |

On my end of the business, that's been considered unethical--that "permission marketing" thing I mentioned.
Let us know if it works.

Willie, I haven't tried it but I am curious to hear why it would be considered unethical. |

I check my logs all the time as well. I don't see how it would be unethical to shoot a demo the way of a company that you know has visited your site. If they don't know by now that these things are logged, that's not your fault. Although I would not say "I've noticed you visited my web site." |

Maybe it's just me. I know I don't like spam. So I don't let anyone in my group respond unless information is asked for. That's why some sites ask if you would like to be updated with news or additional info....sign up please.WE
"Permission marketing is a term used in e-marketing. Marketers will ask permission before they send advertisements to prospective customers. It is used by some Internet marketers, email marketers, and telephone marketers. It requires that people first "opt-in", rather than allowing people to "opt-out" only after the advertisements have been sent. The term was coined by Seth Godin in his book of the same name.
- Permission marketing is an approach to selling goods and services in which a prospect explicitly agrees in advance to receive marketing information. Opt-in e-mail, where Internet users sign up in advance for information about certain product categories, is a good example of permission marketing. Advocates of permission marketing argue that it is effective because the prospect is more receptive to a message that has been requested in advance and more cost-efficient because the prospect is already identified and targetted. In a world of information overload, automated telemarketing, and spam, most people welcome the idea of permission marketing.
Marketers feel that this is a more efficient use of their resources because advertisements are not sent to people that are not interested in the product. This is one technique used by marketers that have a personal marketing orientation. They feel that marketing should be done on a one-to-one basis rather than using broad aggregated concepts like market segment or target market.
In the United Kingdom, opt-in is required for email marketing, under The Privacy and Electronic Communications " _________________ Wild Willie Edwards

I check my logs every day, too. It's interesting to see what search terms people use when looking for VO services through Google. _________________ Greg Littlefield

I used to check the logs each day for "spam" visitors. Then I would block the IP range from the China and Russian Republic visitors. It really got to be a pain. I don't think it reduced my spam any. I read how some spammers find a route around some of those red-flagged countries anyway. Now, I look at my stats a few times a month, mainly to check referring sites and keywords. _________________ "When I was your age, we had to dial to get online"

Thanks for the info Willie.
Since it appears this approach could be considered spamming to some clients... wouldn't "cold e-mailing" demo links and info on your services be even worse? |

Greg,
The search terms folks use to find my site and blog are the main things I'm looking for, too. _________________ Be well,

The Awstats in CPanel I see are that 5 people have come to my site from VO-BB and 1 from Bobsouer's blog, but I can't see where they went, what they heard or who they are. I think that's a good thing.
I can see that 17 people have visited the Samples (demos) page and can see what demos or videos they heard or viewed. But I cannot tell who or where they are they where.
Like Bob, I like the search terms people put to find me. This month someone was trying to find an old radio character voice because "Rotunda Bunda" was there. LOL That was a character that was my large personal secretary that could speak in oinks and eat everything in the studio. Ah! The 80's! |
