Just got an e-mail from V123...
Here are the jobs posted yesterday that matched your profile, however you may not have received a request to audition...
I didn't receive any requests to audition for anything yesterday or today.
Ok, ok...I'm a major hypocrite seeing as I rarely audition for any jobs on the pay-to-play sites...they typically don't match my voice or budget. However, occasionally they do- and I like to audition. I'm paying the money for crying out loud!
So, what's the trick here? How do I get to audition for jobs that match my voice? How do the seekers even know I exist if I'm excluded from the process? And WHY exactly am I paying money to have some automated machine decide I'm not right for a project when clearly I am?
And, am I crazy, or did the cost of membership just go up an extra $100?
ugh. _________________ Threadjackers local 420

I'll admit I was relieved to hear that Voice123 would be tightening up their audition system.
It was a little discouraging at times when you got the audition notification and by the time you submit yours you see that 250 other talents have already thrown their hat in the ring.
But this new system at first glance looks WAY too complicated and not very user-friendly.
I got my first SmartCast invitation at 9:30 this morning, and by 10:30 the system told me that it was "too late" for me to submit my audition.
Unless I am just being overly cantankerous this morning, I suspect there is going to be much gnashing of teeth from VO talents about this new system. |

I'm all for a working system that limits the amount of auditions...key word being 'working'.
Out of curiosity, I did a search of my 'stats' and found over 900 other actors that matched me. _________________ Threadjackers local 420

I haven't recieived any audition requests, either. I was reading the Voice Savvy forum posts and there are a bunch of confused & angry people out there. I'm not sure if the new system is working properly or there is a serious glitch. All I know is that I will not be happy about paying more to get less leads. _________________ Tom Dheere - The "H" is Silent, but I'm Not!

To say that people are pissed at the new changes and unannounced $100 price increase is a bit of an understatement.
Seems that the rating system isn't getting a lot a lot of love either (but then again, they're finding out that it's the voice seekers / clients who are the ones abusing it... particularly clients reknown for low-balling the jobs and dragging their feet in regards to payment). _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

I did get one this morning, IVR.
Be sure to go back over your profile and check your "voice details" as the listing for "types of recording I am willing to do" was not correct on mine. There were several boxes unchecked that had been checked before and a few new ones.
I can't wait to get one of the "adult content" auditions. Just as long as they aren't also "on-camera" as well. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

I'm thinking the word "debacle" may end up being an understatement for what's going on over there.
I'm actually not too worried. I've pretty much quit answering V123 leads. I've had two audition requests since the new system was put in place... I answered both in the first 30 responders which NEVER happened under the old setup. I'm letting my membership lapse at the end of this run. It's just not worth it to me. |

Kara,
You are not crazy. Those of us who were beta testers got the first glimpse of the new price, but it's now being more widely distributed.
I've not received any audition requests either, but in going over all of the audition leads submitted thus far, only one matched my budget and they weren't looking for my kind of voice. So, I guess I'm not surprised I haven't received any audition requests.
The one positive is not having to delete all of those leads from Voice123.com every few hours. _________________ Be well,

I second that! It will be interesting to see what shows up in the weeks ahead... _________________ Threadjackers local 420

Wow....what a hornet's nest over there. I'm almost embarrassed to say that i've gotten two leads through the new system...even got asked to redo an audition with additional notes from the client- I've never had that before with any pay to play site....but I probably shot myself in the foot because I answered BOTH leads...so now the system will think I'm greedy and won't give me any more. _________________ Moe Egan

I never check that other forum...I'll have to go read what everyone else is saying!
Actually, if the system works properly, then I will enjoy only getting auditions that are appropriate for me. Moe, it's encouraging to hear you say that! [I mean...to read you writing that] _________________ Threadjackers local 420

...let me add that I was disturbed this morning because of the e-mail claiming a lead had come in appropriate for me...but I'm not allowed to audition or even see it...
I don't get it. _________________ Threadjackers local 420

I don't either, exactly. It's not really any skin off my nose. Most days I delete every lead I get from V123. I'm a bit annoyed that there was one that came in yesterday I feel I'm suited for and was in my price range but I wasn't invited to audition. I assume they need time to work the kinks out.
The other thing I seemed to have gleaned is that you need to make sure you've got appropriate keywords in your profile. I need to work on that. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Brian,
I agree with your "keywords" comment. I was just reading a bit more on that subject just now on their site. I guess I need to add all my "interests" as well, since they might actually filter to people that have experience with the subject matter.
So I'll have to add keywords like "medieval plumbing" and "WWII aircraft". _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.
