I think so- I think it takes our ratings into account. I've been rating everything...

Upon further inspection...I have 2 bad ratings...and one is on my commercial demo, not even a custom audition. The other one was custom, but he was the one that gave everyone bad ratings. I have 1 high, and that is all! I would love to see more auditions rated, good or bad, I think it could help...

The 2 auditions I've done with Smartcast have not been rated, but both were opened- so that is good!

Mary,

I think it's safe to say this still applies, regardless of what it says next to your name. Smile

Bob, flattery will advance your cause tremendously. Let me know what your cause is and I'll see what I can do Kiss

Are the talent seekers supposed to be rating based on suitability of the audition or demo for the project they're working on, or on their opinion of your work in general?

The latter possibility is like giving grades in art class and is pointless. Possibly the former would help refine the system's ability to send you appropriate auditions, but it could also screw you since a different producer or even a different project with the very same descriptors could find you perfect for their purposes.

Do they supply any criteria for ranking? Any categories? Any means at all to prevent rankings from rankling?

As a part-time seeker, I have NO IDEA what we're supposed to be doing. What I have beein doing is simply giving full marks to any talent who has landed the gig andworks well with me. I leave the others UNrated. I'm sure they would do a fine job, but I see no reason to rate someone I haven't worked with.

Is this the way it's supposed to work?

Meh!

Well, Mary-- if it makes you feel any better, the clients don't see the rankings. They are only used internally by V123! Smile

Mary,

Relative to a post in the Texas BBQ thread, my cause at present is not to break your heart. Smile

As for Voice123.com, since I've not worked through the system from the "seeker" side, I don't know. Bruce has (I think?) done some hiring, so he might be able to weigh in on that question. Frank, too, I believe.

My own point of view is that this sort of thing is going to settle out in the long run. In the short term, some unkind or thoughtless soul could end up hurting my ratings, but assuming I do good work consistently (including auditions), I strongly believe things will return to normal in the long run.

That said, I believe the new system coming to Voices.com (I don't know a roll-out date, just that it's getting close) is far the better system. There, the only people who will be able to rate will be the parties to actual financial transactions, and the ratings (as with eBay) go both ways.

I don't mind being rated on an actual audition...but I don't like getting a bad rating because my demo doesn't fit what they are looking for...and that seems to be the case more than it should...

But I would really rather be rated on my actual work...

I agree 100%, Kara. Does that work both ways? When we give a "bad" rating to an inappropriately sent out invitation, does that "hurt" that seeker just like a bad rating for an audition we submimtted hurt us? It's not their fault SmartCast made a mistake, so does V123 take that into account?

BTW I noticed today that my outbox got alot fuller. I went through them and of the 329 auditions about half of them were listened to and only 21 were rated. What does this mean?

I saw that too....I assumed that the older (pre Smart Cast) outbox was accessed or something....but that's only a guess on my part

It's not listing all of my auditions or jobs booked...

However, out of 32 auditions listed (hm, I don't audition much apparently)...7 listened to and 2 rated.

Your list increased, mine decreased. 2 auditions I had last week that had 5 star ratings are now gone...and the 2 ratings left are 1-2 star.

Good grief. I'm glad this site isn't determining my entire career or I'd be sunk!

I guess it doesn't feel like agony from where I sit...however, if I relied on this site for most of my work...yikes!

Although, it does make me wonder if the auditions I send my agents are all listened to by the client. I hope this isn't the standard all around!
