Myself included...

FYI - if anyone has SunRocket VOiP service, c'set la vie!

They apparently went tango uniform without so much as a whisper of what was going on.

I noticed on Monday that I could not retrieve voicemail messages, nor make outgoing calls nor receive incoming calls. I figured there was a system problem.

When I attempted to use my phone again today and experienced the same outage, I logged into my account. Voicemail was "not available at this time". I called their CS department only to be told in a pre-recorded message, "SunRocket is no longer accepting customer service or technical support calls". So...

I Google'd SunRocket only to discover that they indeed had shut down services. No contact could be made and no explanation was available.

Since I must have phone service, I clicked over to Vonage and they had a promotion going (limited time offer) for SunRocket customers. I signed up, but they're more expensive (which is why I went with SunRocket in the first place).

Until this week, their service was reliable and stable. Now... kaput!

I paid their annual subscription fee of $199 and was into my 2nd year with them. My renewal was in March so my credit union could not issue a credit to my account.

I don't yet know where to turn for retribution, but you can bet I'm going to find out.

Just wanted you to know in case you use SunRocket or know someone who does.

Man that just stinks. Sorry to hear you've had so much trouble. I looked at them a while back. Glad I didn't do it.

Have things settled out with Vonage some now? I know after they lost that lawsuit brought by Verizon there was speculation about them shutting down too.

Some other options can be found here:

Good luck with Vonage Doc, et al.

Just uncovered some more info as written below:

"Nuvio Corp., which distributes through resellers, is offering SunRocket subscribers its new “Safe Landing” plan of $199.99 per year as a replacement service. “Safe Landing” provides unlimited local and long-distance calling, but only within the United States. Vonage is giving SunRocket users two months of free service when they port their numbers to Vonage and sign up for the company’s U.S. Residential Premium Unlimited Plan."

Bad news. Sorry to hear it. But I'm cracking up over the term "tango uniform"!

Yup - I got hosed! Frown

I'm still researching my retribution alternatives.

Frank - thanks for those links... appreciate it. And, although I should've known about Vonage's lawsuit - I did not. At least I have 30 days to cancel Vonage and it's only a monthly charge - not an annual subscription.

"Tango uniform"?? Glad SOME of you got it! Hehehe....

Thanks to all for the kind words.

If I had not previously been introduced to the general hilarity of whiskey tango foxtrot, I might not have been able to connect the dots!

Doc, good luck - I hope you can get some of your money back from the T.U. company. I'll be interested to see what you think of Vonage. I used them for a year but the quality was terrible. Half the time the person at the other end sounded like they were at the bottom of a well. And the customer service people sounded like they were on the other side of the world, and probably were. After I added a second computer with internet access to the local fleet, that complicated life so much, because now we had a router in the chain along with the internet modem and the Vonage modem, so if there was ever an internet outage, rebooting everything was a nightmare.

Now I use a cell phone for business, but reception isn't that great in my below-ground studio.

Life ain't simple.

Doc, sorry to hear about SunRocket. A few years ago I had thought about going with them. I went with [even cheaper service] instead. ICK! [even cheaper service]'s service sounded like an echo chamber in the bottom of a tin can sitting in a fish tank.

I've been with Vonage now for over a year. Quality is good... service is good... and I love getting my voicemails in my e-mail.

Good luck with Vonage. It's worth the price.

Again - thanks for the well wishes.

Today (WAY too late), I received my "Dear John" from SunRocket. Can you believe that they actually recommended 2 other companies with whom I could go? NO offer for reimbursement-nothing.

Sure - like I'm gonna go with a SunRocket recommendation now. They must be kidding. They did this complete fold backwards. Don't want any part of another business deal like this. But, it does go to show that these things really do happen in real life.

Dave - great to hear you're so happy with Vonage. I'll give it a test drive. But, I should've received my interface hardware today and it didn't arrive.

YIKES!

Yes don't sign up long term with Vonage.
I did and the call quality (particularly overseas) is unacceptable.

Local calls are good quality, but thats not why you're getting it is it?

At one point it was like the worst cell phone line imaginable.
The tech people made lots of changes and now its barely acceltable.
I will change to the $14.95 a month service just to keep the extra line, but I wouldn't recommend them highly.

LMAO

I'm setup with Google Alerts alerting me to several search agent criteria there.

The ONLY alert I receive that regards my VO-BB postings is this particular one.

It made me laugh.
