OH MY GOODNESS!!! I can't believe you remembered!! I can't even tell you how much your message means to me.... that's just so nice of you! Wow!

Yup, my laptop is packed up, and I'm getting ready to go to Staples to ship it back to NYC. I'm all done. It was weird, I had a really hard time shutting down my laptop... my lifeline to NY. The past couple of days have been really emotional... I'm not good with goodbyes... it's been kinda sad. I had been with NYL for 9 years... that's the longest I'd been in any one place in my life.

BUT, this is the start of a new chapter in my life, and I'm excited!!! It's funny... some of my co-workers said, "So, what are you going to do next week?".... I replied, "WORK!!" Yeesh, did they think I was going to sit around eating bon bons all day? Smile I might catch a few rays by the pool (just b/c I can!), but I really have a lot to do... I'm going to start smiling and dialing my local tv/radio/production houses, and then work my way to the rest of FL. Also getting my CDs/artwork professionally duped, and when those are back, the mailing campaign (to those agents who require CD by mail) will begin!! LOTS to be done!!!!

THANK YOU for remembering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Caryn,

The very best to you on your new venture. And, just think, 10 years from now, after you've been successfully working as a voiceover professional, you can say that wasn't the longest you stuck with any one occupation. Smile

Caryn,

I've watched a number of friends ride the same emotional roller coaster you're on during their last few days in the trenches. They've all gone on to have successful, fulfilling VO careers. It might be comforting to know that none of them were as well prepared for the change as you are (you certainly seem to have thought this through quite well). And it's safe to say that none of them were as talented.

You'll do great! The anxiety (and the excitement) is normal. Embrace them and enjoy the ride!

As always, if there's anything I can help you with, just ask.

Caryn,
Good luck. I admire you for taking such a big step.

I find it quite appropriate that you take that step today. For it was 38 years ago on this day that Neil Armstrong took the first steps on the moon. For you this date will be just as important.

Caryn, you are at the bottom of the ladder. You are going to step off the (LeM) now...

Caryn,

I had not planned the full-time jump- it happened in the blink of an eye. I was standing up for my beliefs and walked away from a job I had spent my entire adult life doing. I haven't looked back with regret even once.

It took 2 weeks for me to get over the 'not having to be somewhere doing something at a certain time' thing...and to let go of the past.

Now, it's all about your future! There is no reason to be sad, only happy and proud. In fact, I had dinner the other night with my former radio co-host...we are still dearest friends! You will keep your same friends, and add a ton of new ones to the list.

...and if you ever need anything...I'm an e-mail and a phone call away...being full-time from home is THE BEST!

Congratulations!

Miss Diane, you is bad!!!!

Caryn, I can't imagine not feeling some sadness. But you're really lucky that you're leaving your job with NYL under such good circumstances - you did a good job and you were appreciated and you chose to leave to follow your heart's desire. Many people are pushed into new lives which, while they very often end up being the best life imaginable, nevertheless require them to deal with negative feelings of loss and rejection over being "let go". You don't have that burden.

Even though "the world is our oyster" (whatever that means), like you I started local (New England) and then spread out. I imagine Florida will keep you busy for a long time! It will be fun to think of you next week and know that you're having a blast.

All the best to you, Caryn! I'm contemplating a similar jump myself, but that's a story for another thread...

I think it means that it's a little better with a pint of Guinness.

I would wish you the best of luck, but I rather think that you have made your OWN luck.

Enjoy looking in the mirror and seeing the boss look back!

Caryn,

Congratulations on taking this amazing step along the path of your dreams. I hope someday soon to join you along that path.

Here are some words of wisdom about following your dreams from people far wiser than myself. I wish you the greatest possible success at this most exciting time in your life.

Quote:
Anatole France:
To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.

Carl Sandburg:
Nothing happens unless first a dream.

Eleanor Roosevelt
The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

Gloria Steinem:
Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.

Goethe:
Dream no small dreams for they have no power to move the hearts of men.

Henry David Thoreau:
I have learned, that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.

John Lennon:
You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one, I hope someday you will join us, and the world will live as one.

Mark Twain:
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
