From today's Writer's Almanac:
Quote: | Rowling got the idea for the Harry Potter books on a four-hour journey by train across England. The train was stopped somewhere between Manchester and London when Rowland looked out at a field of cows and suddenly got the idea for a story about a boy who goes to a school for wizardry. She later said, "Harry Potter just strolled into my head fully formed." By the time the train ride was finished, she had already invented most of the books' major characters and mapped out many of the main plot points. |

I love the HP books and movies. Great fun. What a constructive train ride! Mostly I just put my ticket in the holder for the attendant to punch and fall asleep. <g> It's all I can do to remember my destination. I loved the last book. Finished it in 19 hours.
Philip, did those guys from the UK ever contact you about voiceover tips? They have an HP connection. |

Amazing what can inspire such phenomena, isn't it?
Unfortunately, all my best writing was done when my heart was used for a doormat. Happy to say I haven't been in THAT zone in a long, long time, but I have tomes of material that should be put together and expanded upon...

I read that when she was writing the first book, she'd go to a local coffee shop and work there, to save on heating her apartment. She has an amazing leterary sense, and what an imagination, _________________ Bobbin Beam
