So is anyone paperless? Been toying with the idea... gotta get rid of the clutter in the office. i've got no room for another file cabinet or plastic storage box.
pro: less clutter.
con: how to markup the copy (highlighting function in Word seems to be a way cause i'd hate to write on my nice new monitor )
wondering if anyone else has toying with it, or done it, or will never do it? _________________ Jim Feldman

....I remember years and years ago, when office computers made major inroads, and there was all this talk of going paperless. As the years went by, it seemed that we actually had more paper than ever--what with all those "prinouts" and such. In my experience, using technology to your advantage requires three things: the data, the system (hardware and/or software, or whatever), and the DISCIPLINE to implement and sustain your use of the system, adapting and improving along the way.
Now, where was I..........
...I swear, I'm in there somewhere.................... |

I went that way about a year ago. Still end up printing things out when I'm working out of the Boston studio, but at home I view and store everything electronically.
Make sure you back everything up though. Everything important is on a "D" drive...and backed up to a separate removable drive as well. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Jim,
Like Todd, I have one client that always wants a signed copy of my invoice as a follow-up to the emailed version. One of my agents has a form they always want submitted after a job. Aside from that, all of my work in my home studio is paperless. _________________ Be well,

I print copy when using my ISDN studio, because it is in a different part of the house and doesn't have a computer hooked up to it.
I use a dry erase marker on my LCD screen to mark the copy -- but then you can't scroll down - no wait - I don't do that - just kidding!!!
I rarely have to print out the scripts that I do self-directed. Every once in a while there will be a tricky one and I will print and mark it, but I do so much of the same sort of thing over and over.
But since I save copy for my classes at City College, I do print a lot of things out . If I wasn't doing that, I'd be paperless most of the time. _________________ Playing for a living...

I bought a second monitor intending to put it in my booth, but I've ended up using them both on my desk so I'm still printing out paper scripts. What with the cost of ink these days I'm beginning to wonder if it wouldn't be cheaper to just buy another computer for the booth. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Mostly paperless here...
the only exception being printing out most of the scripts. Suppose I'm just and old dog... I still like to hold them in my hand and mark up copy. _________________ . If at first you don't succeed, then bomb disposal probably isn't for you. |

My invoices are all emailed, but I still print out scripts to record & file them in the client's folder in my file cabinet (....usually!)
Just like "CDs never skip", the "paperless society" is a myth!

yeah i pretty much e-mail all my invoices (adobe acrobat is such a nice program), or I use PayPal.
Starting to read from scripts that are displayed on the monitor. As long as I can fit it in the screen seems like the easiest thing to do (no retakes cause i rustled the paper).
Anyone use Microsoft OneNote? That seems to have a drawing feature that would allow you to mark up the copy as if it were paper. Wonder if it's any good, and would getting a USB drawing tablet help? _________________ Jim Feldman

I still print out all of my scripts, but keep the digital copy in the database and recycle the paper when finished. I need to do this when I'm working at outside studios, which is about 90% of the time, but if I put a bigger monitor in my booth at home I might go paperless. Scripts are all I print now, except for the occasional invoice that some clients still want the old fashioned way.
Ooh. A little earthquake as I type...that the fourth this morning. Things are busy around here today

I try to reduce paper usage by recycling wherever possible, and printing on back of used paper, backing up to an external drive, and using only my computer screen to read from for auditioning. I still print out real jobs, and invoices to maintain hard copies. Just can't seem to let that aspect go paperless. _________________ Bobbin Beam

I've been drowning in auditions from V123 and others lately, so luckily I have a big enough screen to run through and select the ones I want to do and then put the copy on one side and the audio program on the other.
My scrolling capabilities aren't the best so I'm still printing out long narrations. I too have just one, lone paper invoice client...who misplaced the invoice the other day and asked me to email her a copy, but still wants paper in the future! Go figure.
I have one distant client that still wants CD's, and I had one client who up until a year ago wanted to hear their commercials on cassette. It's a dude ranch in the middle of nowhere and the only audio device they had was a cassette player on the jeep that takes the "dudes" to the ranch.

That always strikes me as funny when a client says that when all they have to do is print out the email; especially if you email them a .pdf copy of the invoice. |

I prefer that it comes off the top of the roll...my wife prefers the back.
I'm still not sure about going paperless. Just not ready for that blow-dryer thingy.
And the first time I tried that stuff with baby-oil in it--DISGUSTING!
I used up the entire roll...just didn't feel like it was doing the job.
Oh...wait a minute....different paper? _________________ Wild Willie Edwards
